Can I carry unopened bags of snack food over the border from USA to Canada....

The airline I am flying on does not provide snacks - or at least the kind I can eat. I would like to take unopened commercially-packed bags of pita chips, cookies, crackers, etc. Are these acceptable to take over the border? Would I even have to mention them since I do not think they are declarable, but I just want to check? Thanks in advance.

We have never had a problem taking food or drink into Canada. It has been a problem coming back into USA.

As long as it is declared there there is no meat, fresh fruit (which also grows in Canada) or soft cheese you should be okay.

I would also avoid nuts/seeds (eg trailmix), but otherwise echo the comment that you will be completely fine.

You can actually download the app for making a customs declaration in Canada in advance. There is no real time benefit to doing so, except you can go through a declaration to read the questions and make sure what you're bringing would allow you to answer 'no'

Do I need to declare food at US Customs?

A US Customs and Border Protection (CPB) public
affairs officer explains: "With food and agriculture
products, the best advice to travelers is to always
declare it. While many [items] may be permissible, it's best to declare them to avoid possible fines and
penalties if they are deemed prohibited." May 11 , 2018
