Can 4 stay if I exchange a studio and pay upgrade fee to get 2br?

I am looking at a resort in Spain and wondering if I exchange a Marriott studio side of a 3br and pay an upgrade fee to get a 2br can I add 2 more people to my reservation to bring my number up to 4 using II?

If they are your guests, of course you can.

Sure. The number of people allowed depends on the size of the unit you are exchanging for, not the one you are using. If the unit you exchange into allows 4 (and I can't imagine a 2 BR that doesn't), then you are ok.

Yes. You can bring up to the max of what the room holds (2BR is usually 6, 3BR is usually 8). Your exchanged unit has nothing to do with the amount of people allowed on the room. No need to add them to the reservation unless they will checkin before you.

If a larger unit is available for you to exchange into you can bring up to the maximum allowed for that room.
But there is no guarantee that a larger room will be available and you will have the trading power to secure it. A studio has less trading power than a larger unit.
Best chance is to place a request as far in advance as possible. You can indicate that you will pay the upgrade fee when you place the request.
Once you have made your exchange, you can’t change the size of your unit without retrading.
