I am interested in getting my daughter a camcorder for Christmas but do not want to spend a fortune. Can anyone suggest one that you have been happy with?

Absolutely love my sony DCR-SR42. It has a 30GB hard drive and a 40X zoom!! It holds about 7 hours of video internally. You can also use an SD card for stills but the quality of those isn't that great. But I think that is true of most camcorder stills............
anyway, it ran about $450 - it may be a little cheaper now, I think it was worth every penny! :cheer:
PS - I'm not connected with Sony at all (unfortunately!)

I got my daughter a Flip Video Camcorder about 8 months ago. She didn't really want a camcorder as her still camera took so-so movies (Dvix) but she just loves the Flip...takes it everywhere in her purse. She's at Neil Diamond's show tonight and can't wait to bring the show to me. It's about the size of a cell phone. Clips are in AVI format, the standard for making movies. 4:3 format. Aim and shoot. Even comes in pink. :) About $130...and surprisingly good movies and very user friendly.

The Panasonic DMC TZ5 is a digital camera, but takes awesome HD video. I love it because now I do not need to carry 2 cameras. Of course I do not shoot long movies, so it works for me.
The 10X zoom works in video mode too, and memory being so cheap, you can buy a couple of 8GB or 16 GB cards and use those.

I'll 2nd the TZ5 recommendation, - small compact size, good pics, good HD video, 10x optical zoom, good price.
