I think this will be a good thing. It is one step in a healthier direction.

Under the new law, trans fats, long linked to health problems, must be excised from restaurant products beginning in 2010, and from all retail baked goods by 2011. Packaged foods will be exempt.

While it is basically a good thing, I worry about government stepping in to regulate personal behaviors...

I'm happy I no longer live in California because of this.

(Probably will be considered a political statement, although it truly isn't).

I guess to me, what I cook with at home would be a personal choice. When I buy prepared food or at eat at a restaurant I don't want to be eating something proven to be as unhealthy as transfat.

Great News!

This is great news. People will get used to it. And, I like that we have no smoking in California restaurants and bars too. I hope this helps lead the way to a healthier way of life for people. Next… Show people what a healthy portion size is (not a super size portion). My husband and I eat very healthy and usually make healthy choices when we eat out. But we do enjoy a good cheeseburger and fries or a great dessert on occasion. Eat healthy, move more and enjoy life. :)

New York City recently enacted a ban on trans fat.

Fern, you are right on.

It seems odd that our government can't pass a budget, but they can worry about we choose to eat.

I, too, agree with Fern and Ricoba. What's next? Timeshares?
