Caitlin Clark has broken basketball

With her ability to take long 3's she seems to have broken the game of basketball. Some of her shots should count as 4. I started noticing last year even before the tournament.

All her praise is well deserved as she seems to have put the work in. See how high she can elevate the team who got the first pick in the draft.

I was with Shaq about lowering the nets but a lot of the players were against it. Maybe they will be lowered now because they will be in favour of it so dunks can offset CC.

Side note as great as she is I just watch the recaps on Youtube. I stopped caring about mens basketball for a long time, even March Madness.

Side note what is up with the New York Knicks voting against giving Toronto an WNBA team. Only WBNA or NBA team to vote against giving more opportunity to women. A way to possibly keep 1st round draft picks from being cut a few games into the season.

The great men basketball player in the fifties and sixties did not have the three point play. They were jumping long ranger jump shots.

Steph Curry did this more than 10 years ago. That may be a reason why you "stopped caring about mens basketball".

True but the gap is bigger now. A lot of other great mens players to counteract Curry. We will see how it develops.

I’m not sure that Caitlin has broken basketball.
I definitely enjoy watching her play. I also admire the way she has matured and handled all of the pressure and attention. I wish her all the best.

We certainly enjoyed watching Caitlin, it increased our enjoyment all the way around.

And it tickled me to see a 7-ish year old girl at the zoo yesterday in a Caitlin Clark jersey. YES!!!

Nonsense.......she has raised it to a new level. (Unless you're defining "broken" in a non-negative way.)
Watched the second half of her last college season at Iowa (just discovered her at that point), and she was other-worldly.
I've never seen the likes of her, well....since I watched Pistol Pete Maravich.
At every point, even in her sub-standard performances, Caitlin showcased her great character, her vastly SUPERIOR talent, her great devotion to the sport,
and her unsurpassed value as a teammate as evidenced by her sheer number of "assists" to her comrades.
Hoping the best for her, and expecting great things from her again, after she learns the ropes of basketball as a profession.....a different world for sure.

In the sense that if she just backs up and shoots 3s who is going to stop her? If she is being doubled team she will find someone open and pass to them. Without the dunk on the most part who else is going to make it into the top ten plays on Sports Center?

So far the team overall is just bad and should get a top draft pick again next year.

Appreciate those thoughts, but you may be limiting her talents with that analysis and citing only two plays. .....
I've watched her lead fast breaks countless times and dribble the length of the court and then dish off a perfect pass, so her talents run the gamut,
and she was never limited to just 3s & dishing off passes when double covered. She could score from underneath the basket, from the corners, and from anywhere else.
But consider why she was being double covered----she could do anything and they were trying to stifle that.
("If you're feeling the 3s, take the shot", and she felt it, and therefore she took the shot. And she made most of them, and from farther out than most mere mortals.)
"Stop her and you stop Iowa" was the thought-----Well, not exactly! That didn't always happen as they had other talent quite capable of scoring too, and she exploited that.
So just knowing about her distracted the opposition. She beat her opponents up, down, and sideways.
She absolutely proved by all her amazing records in every category exactly WHY she was unique and at the top of the heap.
She's basically the Larry Bird of women's basketball, and I say that very reservedly because Larry Bird had infinitely more talent than anyone ever, period.
But the analogy is on track because she had the entire game like nobody else, and remember, she had to do it WITHOUT the physical prowess and power game that others had.

Just a basic thinking of her abilities but yes she can drive the lane. It may be better to let her take her long threes as opposed to the other options. (Wave her off when she is that far out). Long term not the play but more variance.

The league and her team are just letting her get abused on the court. Not sure that the end game is.

WNBA player Diana Taurasi warned Caitlin about playing in the league, and said that "reality is coming", meaning that it wouldn't be so easy
going up against some of the WNBA professional players and teams.
So I think the other teams (even hers) are just letting that play out......to simply remind her that it's tough. I think as Caitlin "learns" they'll accept her
and then she'll be one of the fold, and they'll "have her back". But a lot of jealousy was certainly there as she was coming in as a rookie,
and they wanted her to know how it was in real life. I think Caitlin will be alright. It's a process.

Thats just pure bs. No need for the league to "break her in and earn her stripes". Not suggesting for everyone to just roll over and play dead either. But what is the bigger brand CC or the WNBA? Sure without the wnba, CC needs and outlet and off the bat Ice Cube or overseas was not that but maybe it will become that. Or Dancing with the Stars and such.

It is crazy to think teams were flying commerical last year for back to back games but also crazy players would allow the league to spend millions for them to fly charter when the salaries are less then that or similar.

Caitlin has a history of complaining to the refs and being a difficult teammate. Today’s incident clearly crossed a line.

This is a pretty good piece on Caitlin from March of this year:

Sorry, I meant to allude to certain players who have that attitude, but certainly not a broad brush of condemnation of the whole league, or even a majority of players. ....
If anything, they SHOULD be very welcoming, as I believe Caitlin will do great things for the women's game.

The Carter push on Clark has been replayed multiple times on every sports broadcast available
It has been reposted on social media sites thousands of times in the last 24 hours
WNBA has never been so prominent in discussions, arguments, bleacher coaching, debates at sports bars and among critics as it has been in the last day
In a replay of the two minutes prior to the Carter push, Clark was playing hard and was not gentle
The WNBA is getting attention
As has been said
Any attention is good attention

kinda interesting that wasn't called unnecessary , but what do I know, not that much
And it has now been upgraded to a “flagrant-1” foul. And Reese and the Sky have been fined since Reese didn’t make herself available for the postgame press conference.

The league needs something like that for even more growth. CC is on one of the worst teams in the league so that needs to change and Reese needs to become a better player to fill Johnson or Birds shoes.
