We're off to Cabo on 3/24! :D Visited once before a number of years ago. Though we enjoyed our trip, we felt that either there was not much to do and see (besides go to bars or sit by the pool) or we just didn't know where to go. So, this time I thought I'd query my fellow Tuggers for advice. Pls. post any suggestions for things to do and see and places to go. We love the beach so would like to find beaches where the surf is calm enough to go in. We like to explore the country and see natural sites. Not big shoppers. Thanks for any help w/this.

M

I've been going to Cabo annually for the past eight years. I think that the most appealing part of my experience there is the relaxation. On most of our vacations we are on the go most of the time trying to see and do everything there is to do. Cabo isn't like that--there aren't a lot of historical sites or natural beauty that you have to go find. The beach is right outside our door (we have an oceanfront unit on Medano beach where it is safe to swim) and we can see the rock formation known as Land's End from our window and terrace.

There are many activities, though, if one wants to partake: golf, sport fishing, boating, parasailing, waverunners, snorkling, scuba diving, ATV, tennis, walking along the beach and into town, and many interesting restaurants. The fact that one can do as much or as little as he/she chooses and there is something for everyone in our family to enjoy makes it one of our favoritie destinations. :)

How do you get to Mendano Beach? We are really hoping to find a beach w/beautiful soft sand and calm surf. I know what you mean about going for relaxation. That's what we're looking for too, but after our last trip, I always felt that we had missed something we should have seen/done. We did take the boat out to what is called "Honeymoon" beach - rough on the Pacific side, calm on the Sea of Cortez. We also drove to San Jose and walked around there and had lunch.

Can you tell me what I did wrong when I posted? My nickname comes up as a "Guest", when I'm a TUG Member. I would like others to know that, so can you edit?

How to get to Medano depends upon where you are staying. We own at Solmar and generally take a taxi (About $ 10 each way).. From Solmar we can also walk to the Marina area and take a water taxi. It is a decent walk to the beach from Solmar, I would do it my wife and son would not. Playa Grande and the Finnestera would be about the same as Solmar.
The Pueblo Bonito Rose, The Pueblo Bonito Blanco, Cabo Villas, and Club Cascadas are all on Medano Beach. Puebo Bonito Sunset has a shuttle to the other Pueblo Bonitos.

One other new activity in addition to those named by Karen for Cabo is they have a new dolphin center. We saw it being built early June of Last year. It is near the marina near the old Plaza Los Glorias hotel that has been renamed Cabo Real and now Tesero.

We like to spend beach time, pool time and play saloon.

A good website for Cabo research is www.loscabosguide.com
They have maps there that are useful and have some info on restaurants and activities.

Click hereand you'll find instructions on how to get it to show that you're a TUG member.

On how to get to Medano Beach--That's the beach going north from the marina. It's the main Cabo beach closest to town and it's where all the water activities (waverunners, parasails, etc.) take place.

If you have a rental car, you might want to take drive up to Todos Santos. Some people think it's a fun place to go with art galleries, Hotel California (NOT the one from the song), and restaurants. The only time we've been there has been in August and many things were closed and it was really hot. I wasn't impressed with the town, but maybe in cooler weather with more things going on it would be different.

Meekvan, favorite activities:
1.exploring Todos Santos...I actually shopped in their stores and I have never been one to be a buying tourist...wonderful visuals...we got amazing pictures...very cool hidden courtyards....beautiful beaches....on the surface it is easy to miss the charm.
2. Snorkeling at Chilleno. A rustic vendor has kayaks and snorkel for cheap....and has a bathroom.
3. Spend a day at Santa Maria (no bathroom though)..snorkel, hang out.
4. The desert ATV tour...the more ecological tour choice.
5. Exploring the many incredible resorts...Westin Regina, Pacifica (wow)..love seeing the architecture, pools, people watching.
6. Dancing downtown...fun and more fun!Go make a fool of yourself.
7. On my list for next trip: tequilla factory tour, cactus gardens, explore East cape, get to know Todos Santos beaches better, walk to arch from Marina, spend more time reading at the pool and on my balcony.
8.Stay at hotel that has spa and use the free or nominal fee wet areas (we do this at Sunset Beach....was often the way we would start the day....luxurious, lovely beverages to enjoy, various showers, soaks, steam rooms, lounges, plush robes, lotions and hairdryers.)

Meekvan,

BBQ is right....the Dolphin Experience was close to completion when we were there Thanksgiving....it is near the southern tip of town next to the Marina walk - right over the hill from it is the Playa Grande and Solmar (on the Pacific side), almost right below the Finistera resort.....they expected it to be done by December, 2005.....anyone been to it yet that can fill us in on exactly what you get there???

Cabo dolphins is open now.
Thanks so much for that information. I've added the link to the sticky post at the top of the Mexico bbs in the Cabo thread. It's always nice to learn about new stuff to do in Cabo.

On the dolphins website there's a map of the location here. It gives a nice overview of where Playa el Medano (Medano Beach) is located (the line of red umbrellas going off toward the right).
