Does anybody know if there is a program within Wyndham to "Buy" VIP status from Wyndham if you alreay own 300K points? OR if I purchase a re-sale from somebody who had VIP status, does the VIP transfer. In other words, is the VIP part of the points package or is it assigned to the purchaser when they purchase from the developer (at CRAZY $$$$$)....

And why the heck doens't Wydham get into the ROFR business. Do they know something we don't?

I don't think Wyndham allows you to "requalify" a resale purchase with a developer buy to reach a VIP color level. I think only the pricey developer bought points count to VIP status.

Starwood allows you to do this, if you find the right salesperson(whole thread on how to get this done in the Starwood FAQ section).

With the economy the way it is, has anyone approach Wyndham to see if they would do this ala Starwood? or would you just be :deadhorse:

PS(I love the horse smiley, I just wish the DIS boards would get it so I could post it on the "new reservation rules thread").

Hello,

VIP is a program run by the sales department, designed as a way to get people to buy from the developer. You'll find many postings here and on the other Wyndham boards discussing the merits (or lack thereof) of the program. To answer your questions:

No, VIP status will not transfer on a resale.

There have been different reports as to whether existing resale points can be used towards gaining VIP with a new purchase from the developer. I think the company line is "no," however I know I've read a couple of posts stating that it has been done. May depend on the sales rep/office in question. If ever confronted with this option, one would be wise to get all such promises from the sales staff in writing.

Regards,
Caius

People have reported that they have bought resale weeks then converted those weeks to FF points ( along with buying more points) and gotten "developer bought" placed on all the weeks because of the convertion to points.

Still, IMHO, I don't think it is worth it.

Usually the sales rep will offer some sort of package 'deal' to entice you to obtain VIP status. In other words, you buy this 150K package for $20K and we'll roll your resale points into the VIP status. It still won't be cheap! -> (probably cheaper than buying all of your points from the developer though).

Wyndham current position is it is part of developer sale program. So you should have all the points purchase from them for any VIP and can not get transfer on resale.

There are always all kind of exception, most of them come from salesman.

Whether you can trust them, and if you trust them, how many will still be there after few months, and what will happen if stuff get changed is another story.
