Hello. Considering buying a timeshare. What are the top factors I need to consider to help narrow down what chain I want to buy from? Thank you very much.

You've been a guest here for 11 years. What are your understandings and impressions of timeshare resorts or chains you've experienced?Hello. Considering buying a timeshare. What are the top factors I need to consider to help narrow down what chain I want to buy from? Thank you very much.

OP has been on TUG for 11 years- renting. My advice? Rent where you may be interested in going. Maybe rent a few different rentals over a couple of years.
Renting gives you a chance to test drive a particular Resort or location and may strike your fancy! And you may get a rental that you don't like at all and it will cause you to cross that Resort off of your potential buy list. Go for the test drive!
Always buy resale!
ThanksWhere would you like to vacation next? Rent that from an owner on TUG, Redweek, go-koala.com
See if you actually like the resort, the unit, the destination.
Very generally:
- if you like the Marriott locations, buy a resale week at a Marriott resort. If you are willing to learn to Exchange via Interval International, ask about which resorts are good for trading. Once you ask about this, people will recommend which ones.
- if you like the Sheraton/Westin locations, buy a resale week at a Sheraton or Westin resort. Once you ask about this, people will ask if you want to book the Sheraton / Westin directly, or whether you are willing to Exchange via II. Then they'll recommend which resorts.
- If you want access to 90+ resorts without ever having to learn to trade, look into WorldMark.
