Buying Points for Executive Level

Hi Folks,
I am a new user and haven’t been able to take advantage of my timeshare for years!

I own Vistana beach club in Jensen Beach, and two adventuras contracts. I am short 600 points from Executive Level status. What would be the cheapest way to approach this in the resale market? I have Executive Level status before but when I “upgraded” from St John to Aventuras, I lost my status—don’t even get me started. Any wisdom would be appreciated.

If you haven't taken advantage of your timeshare for years, why do you want to acquire more?

We are traveling more to destinations and paying for hotel rooms.

Convert what you already have into Marriott hotel points. Don't pay to add additional points for a higher status. Marriott charges $14-$17 per point. It would cost $10K or so to upgrade by buying 600 points. I wouldn't do it, especially if you aren't using it now. This makes no sense at all.

You'll pay a $3 per point enrollment fee with a $3,000 minimum so it doesn't make sense to buy a contract that is less than 1,000 points (in case you saw one that was 750). Also supposedly the minimum points you can buy resale if you aren't already a points owner with Marriott is 1,500 but I'm uncertain if this is ever enforced or looked at. Also go to rofr.net and check out what prices are actually clearing first of right refusal with Marriott. You might be tempted to go out and buy a 1000 point contract for next to nothing but if it's under the prices that you see there that are successful, that means Marriott will take it away from you during the sale and keep it for themselves.

Thanks. Where can I buy points at 3 dollars per point?

That $3 fee is on top of the purchase price, and likely you'll need to pay close to $4 a point to have a chance to get it through Marriott's review. You can find points for sale on almost any website that sells timeshares including Redweek and eBay plus places like Facebook.

Ok. what if a buy the Westin Mission Hills, 140,000 points? Would that do the trick?

Westin Mission Hills is a voluntary resort and doesn't come with Staroptions via resale.

No.
Resale weeks, MVC, Sheraton or Westin do not count towards status without a purchase direct to requalify them. That would be anywhere from $10-35k depending on what you were trying to requalify.

The OP has two Adventuras contracts and a deeded timeshare in FL. Turning those ownerships into BonVoy points are a waste of the maintenance fee. Also, MVC only sells Trust Points in increments of 250. It is called a Beneficial Interest. Resale MVC Trust Points sell for around $4/point, plus there is an activation fee of a minimum of $3k or $3/point. The OP could purchase 1000 Trust Points resale for around $7500. Executive level ownership gets the owner platinum status with BonVoy.

If your goal is to gain hotel status within Marriott International (the hotel company) then the cheapest way is to pay for a credit card that gives you platinum level status. The cc may cost you $650 annually, but you'll earn BonVoy points with spending and stays, and you'll have the platinum level to start. If you really want to stay in more timeshares, then consider buying MVC Trust Points resale, you'll be able to add 1000 points for around $7500 all in. But frankly, 1000 MVC Trust Points won't get you much, and then you'll have the deeded week, plus the two adventures contracts, so you'd either need to be electing Club Points for one of those ownerships or rent Club Points from your fellow owners in order to get a quantity of Club Points worthwhile to book anything. If you really want to stay in hotels, timeshares are not the way to go. There are less expensive ways to gain BonVoy level status.
