Buying Diamond resale to get similar to HGV MAX?

Not sure if this is best asked here or the Diamond forum.

We know HGV resale is mostly decent (meaning they don't treat you like second class citizens and I don't care about Elite status)
We know that HGV MAX isn't a very good option for accessing DEX/Diamond resorts due to cost and booking limitations.

Can you still buy/get Diamond via resale? Is it then managed/owned via HGV now? (ie: are you restricted from Exchanging only via RCI like us Hilton owners are?)

If you buy resale Diamond, are the systems separate (or do you login to HGV and do stuff?) I know they adjusted the points values to align between the two programs.

I assume that you are talking about DRI/HVC so moving to that forum.

Both programs are separate.

If you want DRI properties, there are three good options. All are for 1 week intervals:

1) Trade in DEX US for DRI. Buy a resale deed (not The Club) at Sedona Summit or KBC or other DRI property.
2) Trade in DEX EU or US for DRI. Buy HGVC Gulf, or Craig Lodges (not suites) and enroll in DEX to trade.
3) Trade in Interval International. Find a property that will allow II.

If you want HGVC, #2 above will also provide HGVC access. If you only want HGVC buy HGVC Vegas Deeds.

We know the DRI limits deeded resale to the collection the deed is in, so purchase a deed carefully where you likely want to go.

Points? Not sure about those resale limits?

Check the FAQ.

The point values in HVC match those in HGVC. I did pick up a resale ownership in Cabo Azul points - using it directly is restricted to Cabo Azul but I can use the points in DeX. I also picked up a resale ownership in Monarch Grand - it includes the other Monarch Grand resorts in the collection as ones I can book directly similar to Cabo Azul as well as the ability to use the points in DeX. Costs for both are relatively high ($0.196/pt for Monarch Grand & $0.1542 for Cabo Azul) - I only picked them up in order to be able to easily book there. My understanding is that the Cabo Azul fees are close to the lowest if not the lowest in HVC; I would only recommend adding on ownership at specific resorts you want to go to that are hard to get or inefficient by other means - the lack of resort fees, etc., for a direct booking at Cabo Azul and the ready access are the only things that made this a worthwhile addition for me.

HVC: The Point at Poipu, 3 deeded weeks, 1 of which is in The Club.

Hilton Vacation Club (Diamond) resale points are limited to the collection the points are in. Resale deeds can only be used at the deeded property. I know because I bought 2 resale deeds. However, deeded weeks can be exchanged at a reasonable price through the Destination Xchange for any HVC property. If the deeded resort is a member of RCI or Interval International, the week can also be exchanged through them. I would never recommend buying HVC resale points. The maintenance fees are about 50% higher than an equivalent deeded week.

You can however buy weeks at diamond properties, and not pay resort fees, at reduced prices, and its way better than bonus time as you can book pretty far out as well, keep in mind you'll only have access to DRI places

Oh my, very confusing (compared to HGV, IMO).

So there's:
1) Points (but resale can't do this, UNLESS you buy a Trust/Collection setup?)
2) Deeded week (can buy resale?)- but can only stay at that resort (it's not clear if you can use DEX to exchange internally--is that "points"?)
3) Club - resale can't use points, but maybe can if they are converted? although it sounds like you need to buy a few thousand points direct for this to happen?

Is that correct?

Which options of the 3:
a) Allow you to trade into DEX?
b) Allow you to trade into Interval International?

If you get a Collection (#1?), say, the US one, you can stay at any of those resorts in the collection, is that via DEX? Or is that part of the regular website/staying and DEX is still an option, but separate?

1) Points, Yes only via The Club and per collection for resale. Expensive cost per point for US and HI collection. I have heard that Cabo Azul collection points are less expensive on a MF/pt basis but not sure because I do not own. The Club members can trade points into DEX US. Not sure if resale can do this. You can pick these up for free on Timesharenation.com

2) Yes you can buy deeded former DRI resorts and get DEX (and possibly II) to trade. Check Redweek and TUG for Sedona Summit, KBC, Point@Poipu deeds. Less expensive MF than Club. Sometimes you can get deeds for free. Put a want ad in TUG timeshares wanted section. Someone responded to my free wish list but then I received a Vistana SDO deed for free and Craig added DEX EU so no need for a DRI deed. You exchange via DEX week for week. No short stays, but you likely save just as much (if not more) than using The Club point for a short stay. Each week is assigned a Tier. I do not have the USA DEX guide but there should be one in the sticky.

Craig lodges allow you to also trade into II but you will pay resort fees as an outside exchanger and an extra annual club fee. You also will pay higher fees than trading a Vistana or MVC unit which has preference in II. Probably better to pick up a free SDO 1 bdrm annual or EOY SDO 2 bdrm for that system (which is what I did).

1) I posted the costs for Cabo Azul and Monarch Grand earlier. Not sure about the other collections. Resale in either gets you access to DeX - I believe the same is true for the other collections but have no experience with it. If DeX is your goal, my understanding is that the Scottish HGV resorts are a better way to go.
2) Beyond my experience.
3) If you buy resale points you have resale points to use within that collection for any unit type. If you buy a resale week you can use it at that resort for that unit type.

a) At least the Cabo Azul and Monarch Grand resale points get you DeX. Not sure about weeks anywhere but kind of doubt it.
b) There are some that are in II. Given the costs, I would probably look to more efficient II traders like WorldMark or some of the VV ones in Williamsburg. Whether it's worth it is a personal choice for you that would have to take into account where you want to go. I only picked up my HVC resale points to go to a specific HVC resort.
