Buying another resale contract

Hi all !

I used to have 2 contracts with a total of 365k - I'm in the process to giving up a contract in a nasty divorce lol, so I'm looking to get another resale.

I purchased the two resale contracts probably 12+ years ago. It is also my understanding that Wyndham doesn't like resale - I hate going to those updates, because they try to minimize what you have to wash your brain and convince you to buy from them.

Is there anything new on a resale that will prevent me from having what I have now ?

Wyndham values resale deeds at $0 when they take back Ovations. When you own the resale deed sales will tell you its a substandard ownership worth very little but when they take it back with Ovations and resell it magically becomes worth $25k++++ Low cost maintenance fee resale deeds are available every day and at the same cost Wyndham is offering ($0) when taking back Ovations.

Mainly they dont count for VIP benefits.

In addition to no VIP, you also don’t get The ability to book club pass (WorldMark) locations, plus partners (if you don’t have a retail purchase), no ability to convert to Wyndham rewards. All 3 are no loss in my opinion. The only nice thing about Plus partners is RCI nightly stays. The conversion rate on both Plus Partners and Wyndham rewards is terrible. If Club Pass is important, it’s cheaper to rent from an owner then pay $20,000 for something you may use every once in awhile. If you’ll use it more then once in awhile, buying a WorldMark contract on eBay would be a better option.


As far as VIP, if you don’t place a high value on the benefits, or cannot use the benefits, it’s not worth it. You will not save money, except maybe in the case of going to VIP Silver using PIC, and even then, you have to do it a certain way. It does require a minimum of a 98,000 point purchase to get two PICs enrolled for VIP Silver. About $18k. Maybe a bit less. If you don’t have that kind of cash laying around, don’t buy retail. Don’t finance a luxury purchase.

I remember someone told me about plus partners and trying to convert points for a cruise. - He said it was better to pay cash for the cruise than using all the points.


When I went to Hawaii, I was told about a different plan where the points were going to be 'converted' into developer points and reduce the maintenance fees.

If you hate them, don't go to the updates. You are under absolutely no obligation to go, they are not going to give you anything in the way of "new information" or discuss "new programs" that you wan't hear about from here. They are simply a thinly veiled way to get you in to a sales presentation. In 30+ stays we have never attended one. A polite but firm "no" or two at check in (and you have no need to explain to them why you don't want to attend).

Don't forget about perceived value and how the sunk cost can never be fully recouped. I do agree its cheaper to rent from a owner vs buying developer if you dont desire VIP status. I would also add if you find a VIP that passes along the free room upgrades and 50% discount in the 60 day booking window renting is cheaper then paying maintenance fees.

Agree with @scootr5 100%. I haven’t been to one in about 3 years now and I don’t ever see myself going to another one. I’m silver VIP with one developer purchased CWA contract and 2 resale UDI contracts that total 779k points. We shouldn’t need any more points and we are definitely not looking to rent any so I’m never listening to another sales pitch disguised as owner education.
