Hi there, I am a newbie so forgive me if this is a dumb question, BUT...

I live a few hours from Branson and love it. Our family always has a great time there. I was thinking it would be good to buy a timeshare w/a side benefit being we could exchange it for time at another location. We are a family of 7, so lodging is a big expense for us when we travel. Is it realistic to think we can exchange a Branson timeshare week for say, time in FL or CA?

THANKS, and I would also appreciate any links to more info about how exchanges work.

Johnna

We live five hours from Branson. We are close enough to drive in and do so once or twice a year. We own Horizons by Marriott in Branson. We have used it and have also exchanged it for the following:

Marriott Ko Olina, Hawaii
Marriott Imperial Palms, Orlando
Marriott Grand Ocean, Hilton Head
Horizons by Marriott, Orlando

We are empty nesters and do not have to travel in the summer. If you have children and have to travel when school is out that will limit your possibilites, but probably expect to get Orlando just about anytime.

The Convential Wisdom would say not to buy in Branson expecting to get great trades.

My guess is that if you buy a peak summer week (26-32) with the intention of using it mostly and trading it occasionally then here is a good place for you. We have met many Branson owners and they all love coming here again and again.

Look for a low price on eBay or elsewhere on the Internet~~~Google Branson Timeshares for Sale. Decide what you want~~~Lake, golf or in-town.

You might consider Fairfield Points.

Email me if you like.

You also might consider Bluegreen Vacation Club as they have 2 resorts in the area, one near all the action (uh, maybe The Falls) and another away from it all (Big Cedar).

In this points club, you can use your points at any of their resorts. If you also get deeded in one of the Branson resorts, you would get priority on using your own week.

You can pick up a good Branson week on E-bay for around $1,000 or less. Be sure to research what you are buying as many weeks advertised are white weeks where you can only use the resort weeks 1-10, which is a horrible time to own a timeshare week in Branson. We picked up an every-other-year usage one bedroom week at Grand Regency for $285.

As far as Exchanges, the Grand Regency week we purchased, which is one of the few resorts in Branson that is not 5 star (no clubhouse, no pool et.....) actually trades fairly well if I'm not asking for the moon and stars. In shoulder season it will pull a few 5 star resorts and will get me most anywhere we might want to go if I'm not looking at getting into a 5 star resort during high season.

However, I would never pay developer price in Branson and think getting great trades any time I wanted to be an easy thing. Branson is pretty well overbuilt and easy to exchange into. We've often seen 2 and even a few 3 bedroom units when offering up only a studio (hotel room) unit in Vegas for exchange. Getting a one bedroom unit using one of our studio units is pretty much a given.

We take 4 night weekend trips to Branson a couple of times a year. Since our children are older, we travel alone a lot. I'll usually lock off the other timeshares we own and exchange the studio sides into Branson. To date we've never had to stay in a studio unit, even though our exchange weeks have only been studio units. It's been a very easy exchange.
