In fairness, every team has a few easy opponents...otherwise they would all be walking wounded.
No team can withstand fighting WWII every week.
That's how all schedules are made, and far in advance.

Georgia did play Clemson in game 1, and also played several strong SEC teams, all of whom had significant big wins in their seasons----
South Carolina, Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky, Florida, Tennessee---All are very physical opponents who have the ability to upset anyone
at any time, and did.
They must now face perennial national champions Alabama (excepting Clemson), whose talent and depth rival some NFL teams.
Let's not get on a "bash the SEC" kick, because that argument would be lost............again.

For the record, in 2021 OSU played:
Akron 2-9
Tulsa 5-6
Rutgers 5-6
Maryland 5-6
Indiana 2-9
Nebraska 3-9

and lost today in a historic game, and won't even win their conference division (yes, didn't mean that, division is correct, duh).

Cincinnati has a tough game against Houston (won 9 straight) next week and should make the playoffs if they win. They actually played Georgia tough in their last bowl game. My Ohio State friends are upset, but they were also mad when Xavier beat Ohio State basketball. It will be interesting to see who else makes it. I think Alabama would have to beat Georgia to make it.

I was born and raised in MI and have always been a fan but, over the years it has been hard to hang in and watch them figure out new ways to lose. Yesterday brought back the days of power football. Cram it down their throats football. MI offensive front line was as dominant as I’ve ever seen them. Hopefully this game was a turning point for them.
 
Now that THE Ohio State University was thrashed by that school up north, Alabama needed 4 OT to beat a mediocre Auburn team with a gimpy QB and Oklahoma was whipped by the OSU Cowboys, maybe we’ll see somebody besides the usual suspects in the playoffs.

Even if Georgia wins out, it will be nice to see new teams. OTOH as the saying goes, “Anything can happen” and often does.

I also wonder how the Chairman of “The Committe” will stick his foot in his mouth this week.

Saturday's NCAA football games on TV were collectively outstanding, as GREAT as I've seen in many a year. What a day for college football!
What else could I want? Exciting games, sitting by the fire with plenty of turkey sandwiches on hand, and family alongside, present and watching.
Fall as I always envision it!

Ohio State vs Michigan was off-the-charts GREAT, AWESOME, EXHILARATING ----it had all the ingredients---cold & snow, tens of thousands of wool coats, hats, and gloves but yet with fan decibels well over 100----a renewed & heightened rivalry with a lot on the line, frenetic fans who never gave up, teams playing their hearts out, and the players who were not shy about their intense dislike for each other as shown by their several
on and off-the-field skirmishes. Michigan looked like the Michigan of old as they battered OSU. Sublime satisfaction at last for Michigan,
and it will undoubtedly turn out to be a historic victory which will elevate Michigan's program and fan base astronomically.
The wolverines are back. The on-field celebration after the clock expired was something to behold---pure joy and vindication.....at last.
Shockingly they were thrust into the national title talk, but for the moment all they really wanted was victory and respect.

Alabama vs Auburn.....4 overtimes, are you kidding? players who HATE each other---as big a state rivalry as they come, and "everything" riding on the game. Both teams are immensely proud, even arrogant, and perennially great, with athletes as great as can be found on any two teams,
and the game turned out to be simply about survival.
THE greatest and most accomplished college football coach of all time versus a brand new one, a true neophyte, totally untested. Test passed.
The players truly "left it all on the field". An SEC war if ever I saw one.
Given, Auburn had a disappointing year per what was expected, but I'll say this about them----they're only so-so until you play them.
Ask any SEC coach.

Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State.....extremely exciting with an expected high-scoring theatrical extravaganza that didn't disappoint,
both teams desperate to be considered for a playoff berth after great 10-1 seasons leading up to the in-state rivalry.
The game delivered on everything. And a fitting end to my glorious day of college football.

Penn State vs Michigan State......close, dramatic, and each team wanting to rise above recent adversity to salvage seasons fraught with disappointment. Both had satisfying wins and despairing losses. The game was close, the fans still wanted to believe, and a win would be some consolation.

So, what am I to do today? Stuffed to the hilt and emotionally spent, maybe I'll rake some leaves and take a walk, and contemplate WORK tomorrow
and vacations far out on the horizon.

As good a season as Cincinnati had, I believe there are several teams that would beat the n's out of them.
I guess we'll see.

so Alabama wins and their 3rd or 4th. With Cincy out. Would be a tough break but the SEC champ not in after beating undefeated #1 would be an injustice as well. And won that costs more money.

The problem with SEC teams is they still schedule too many FCS teams and they only play 8 conference games. My personal opinion, FCS games shouldn't even count towards heisman stats, or in the W-L total for FBS teams that schedule them. There is too much disparity between the divisions. Of the Power 5, the SEC is the only one that doesn't play 9 conference games. The SEC needs to change that rule.

Of the teams you listed for OSU's bottom teams, two of them finished 6-6. Tulsa played 4 ranked teams this year. Maryland played 4 top 15 teams this year and 5 ranked teams. How many teams can say they did that? I think Georgia faces their first top 15 team all season when they play Bama.

Yes, we thought Clemson was a top 5 team when Georgia played them, but we found out Clemson had a very down year for them.

While you bashed the Buckeye's schedule you neglected to note that the Buckeyes played 4 of their last 5 games against ranked opponents (both Penn State and Purdue were ranked at the time). Georgia's last 5 opponents weren't ranked at all.

So I think the schedule talk is still up for debate. But, I can't say Georgia beat a top team all year. In fact, every team in the top 12 has a win against another team in the top 12 except Georgia. Georgia's best wins are against mostly bottom top 20 competition (Clemson and UK).

Cincy actually has better wins that Georgia too.

No one's really talking about Georgia's scheduling because I believe Georgia tried to schedule top teams, but it didn't happen. I just think they have more to prove on the field once i can see them play a good team.

Wait but your name is Bucky? I wouldn't have pictured you being a MI fan. Sorry had to give you a jab there.

As a Buckeye fan, I knew the streak would end. But, I didn't expect it to end in dominating fashion like that. You are right. It was OLD Big 10 football. Three Yards and a Cloud of dust.

At the beginning of the year, I felt this year would be tough for Bama, Clemson and Ohio State. The three teams have been the most talented with many players leaving those teams early opting to bolt for the NFL. Knowing many teams had super seniors due to Covid rules, I knew OSU had a very young team and would have to face 23-24 year old men.

Yesterday hurt as a Buckeye fan. But, the silver lining is at least 2 new teams will be in the College Playoffs this year (maybe 3). That is good for college football interest across the nation.

Assuming Cincinnati beats a good Houston team, no team should pass them in the rankings. Oklahoma State has one loss. Have they beaten a top 5 team? UC beat Notre Dame. UC has an outstanding coach, secondary, quarterback, and red zone defense. Their greatest weakness is their kicker. They only lost to Georgia 24-21 in last year's Peach Bowl and most starters returned from both teams.

What is Norte Dames best win?
It’s a shame with teams moving up in conferences that more teams are entering 1a. Should be teams being kicked out of it. What business do New Mexico State and umass among others have playing “big time” college football? Wins and stats against c-usa school should not count either.

DH says he thinks it’s specifically the big-money boosters, who tell the ADs what to do.
 
Kelly walked out on the Michigan directional school, Cincy and now Notre Dame. Would did they expect there? What comes around goes around. Most likely will get fired from LSU as that is where the Big Boys play but winning is always expected.

If I started over I would have got in to coaching football. With head coaches making north of 10, associates, OC and DC's should be looking to get raises too. Getting out of Norman and South Bend are both steps up in location for most people.

As I said before its a shame more schools are moving up when schools should be moving down. Take a page from Hartford.
