Hi, I just bought the Wyndham discovery trial program. It was 200k points for $2k. Our goal is to use it to go to Australia, I'd like to go for 2 weeks. Have I made a mistake? Should I cancel, I am within the 10days. Or could this be a good deal with the goal I have. Thank you in advance.

Yes there are a few world mark by Wyndham associate locations on the eastern side. But overall is it a bad choice to do thier discovery package of 200k points for 2k. I do want to try a timeshare out, I'd be eventually looking to buy resale. But I feel there might be a better trial run than buying from Wyndham directly the discovery program.

It's a bad choice if you're looking to use it for associate resorts. Availability there is going to be very limited to almost nonexistent.

It's an average to poor value compared to renting the points from an owner.

I would rescind, and look for an owner rental on TUG.

Any recommendations on how to do this? Because i can't see availabilities without access to the Wyndham system. Again my main goal is Australia in early 2017 at an affordable deal... Using airline points for the other part. And also deciding if a time share is right for my husband and myself.

Does the Wyndham Perks have any worth while benefits?

For owner rentals, click on MARKETPLACE at the top of the forum in the red bar.

www.redweek.com is also a safer rental site for owner rentals.

Will people let us know if the place we want is even available?

These are classified Ads -

You can use the search function, and search for the resorts you want.

And you can browse the Australia section.

And you can also place a "Wish Ad," which is a rental wanted Ad.

You should have received paper copy of the Discovery Member Directory. That book contains the places a Discovery package can be used. It doesn't even have all of the US Wyndham resorts in it; so l highly doubt it has any resorts in Australia in it. My thought is to call the reservations consultant for Discovery and verify whether or not you can do it without having to add them to a regular contract. I think you will end up rescinding that purchase and using the money to rent what you really want.

A Discovery points package isn't a terrible deal, but it would be wrong for you if you can't use it where you really want.

You were already informed that FEW to NONE of those Affiliate Resorts ever show up in the computer to be booked. They mostly are WINDOW DRESSING for possible buyers' dreams....like YOU who dream of going to that part of the world.

Yes, technical, there will be A UNIT at some time available to be booked.

Rescind this purchase, put THAT $2000 grand into the bank, and add money to that account ... like $300-600 every month .... and book a trip inside of 3 years.

I have the small discovery packet that has the Australia spots that are included... I'm assuming it is less spots than the full verison. I called the number and weeks here and there do exist, they are only open 10 months out so not yet what I am looking for yet to check. I guess for me the question is can I do better than 200k points for 2k and can I do it in a way that for sure gets me Australia.

There is limited availability for the 1st week of November, nothing for December. An owner can not look beyond December 16. (10 month on-line checking capability)
Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific Coffs Harbour - Treetop -11/06/2016 1 Bedroom- 182,000 2 Bedroom -249,000
Ramada Resort Golden Beach 11/06/2016 7 1 Bedroom-110,500
Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific Torquay|-11/06/2016 7 2 Bedroom -318,000
Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific Sydney-11/06/2016 7 1 Bedroom -196,800

I have no idea if there would be availability in early 2017 because that's summertime down there and high demand. As you can see, the resorts that did have availability had pretty high point values. My advice to you if you choose to keep your Discovery package is to have a back-up way to use those points if you can't get Australia and to plan on only being able to book 1 week using points
