BOS to Hawaii

A friend wants me to help her find a good fare to Hawaii for mid September. Most of the fares I've seen so far are mid 900s for Bos-HNL, LIH-BOS. Hawaiian has a nonstop NY to HNL and a return from Kauai, but with the fare from BOS to NY it still comes to the high 800s. I think it's too early to book. I'm looking for advice so I'll know a good fare when I see it.

I think that is about as cheap as it will get. I paid $1,149 for my July flight. I tracked it for awhile before I booked it. The cost went up about 5
$50.

Thanks, Kenrabs. I was hoping it would get down to the high 600s, but I guess not.

I don't think you can compare the cost of a September vs a July flight. June/July/August are usually higher than most other months.

I'm hoping for a sale in September from NYC for my daughter's honeymoon.

Last year in May, early June they had a incredible sale that included dates in the fall. I'm hoping a sale will again happen in May.

If fuel costs keep rising (as they are predicted to do), I expect air fares to increase too. I would not doubt that the cheapest prices you are going to be able to get are the current prices. I am assuming that for the near future there will be nothing but air fare increases unless fuel costs drop or stabilize. JMHO.

http://www.farecompare.com/news/flights-expensive-summer-airfare/

From the article:"We are nearing the historical “sweet spot” for summer travelers looking to score a deal on domestic tickets who shop in earnest about 3-and-a-half months before departure — the time frame when airlines tend to start offering up some cheaper seats in order gauge demand in comparison to their historical booking models.

It is likely that early bird shoppers for summer airfares will be shell-shocked when getting quotes. Waiting may be their only option.

With the volatility of jet fuel prices and the reticence of airlines to increase capacity coupled with firming demand, it’s not hard to imagine a summer of some the highest airline ticket prices in years."

Just a couple of comments:

The OP wants a September flight- not a summer one- so the link may not be helpful &
Re your comment about the industry's unwillingness to increase capacity- I know of at least one airline that has added flights specifically from the east Coast i.e. Hawaiian

Having said this your comment about the price of oil might trump everything
