Another thread got me thinking about this. I was looking at booking a reservation in the 90 day window, but the system won't let me borrow from my next year for some reason. It required 60,000 points. I've got 1600 pooled points, and 67,000 for use from 10/1/12 to 9/30/13, but it only gives me the option to rent 58,400, not borrow from next year.

Any ideas why that's the case?

Heres what I see as the rules

you have the option to borrow points from your next Use Year of points. This option is available when you are booking a reservation during the Express Reservation window (90 days or less from your check-in date) and points are available in your next Use Year.

In order to borrow points, you will need to use all of your current Use Year points first.
You may borrow only Regular Use Year Points from your next Use Year

So are those next years points cancelled points by any chance?

What i think you could do is credit pool your Oct 2013 points

Not sure if this is normal but in 2011 I used my remaining 2011 points, all of 2012 and some of 2013 and none of it was pooled. I didn't think it would allow it but it did ????

I'm pretty sure that as long as you are in the 90 day window you can borrow from any future year you can "see" the points for. Of course you could have also made a reservation for 2012 using all of your 2012 points, and then make a reservation for 2011 (in the 90 day window) using your 2013 points.

In order to borrow points, you will need to use all of your current Use Year points first.

True per Wyndham Rule Handbook... but for example: say you have two contracts... one for 154k, and one for 70k... both full allocations for 2012 available. You ask the Wyndham Representative, if you make a reservation online, which contract will points be pulled from. They tell you the 154k first. Tell them, you want to used the 70k for a guest (and you want to do it online to save $30 on guest fee).... To save them some work of manipulating the points after booking it online and it pulls from the 154k contract...to have them re-issue them back in and pull from the 70k contract. Tell them it would be easier if they just temporarily zero (0) out the 154k contract for 2012 points so it automatically pulls from the 70k contract... then after you book the reservation, they reissue the 154k into the 2012 use year which they temporarily zero'd out. In the meanwhile, don't tell them what reservation you are booking (or tell them a lie).. and book a reservation for 140k... they will automatically ask you online to borrow into the next use year for the remaining 70k. Then, you tell the rep to reissue the 154k back into the contract for 2012 allocation... end of call... you borrowed into 2013 and still have 2012 points avail. Doesn't work all the time... easier when you have many contracts... and when you have a rep that doesn't know much of whats going on. Not sure if that made sense, but I have had this situation work more than once to borrow into a future year with out touching a single contracts current year allocation of points... then again... it has also backfired once... which I then just had them turn everything back to normal prior to booking.

Kaio, why don't you want to use all the 2012 points first?

There are many reasons... For example: you sold a specific contract with 2012 points and cannot touch them.... or say you have multiple owners or authorized agents (say in a trust), and each your own contract under a single Member # and don't want to touch the other party's contract.

Thank you, makes sense.
