We have 81000 SO with WKV. I want to book a 2 bedroom LO at WKV needing 148,000 options. I will combine SO from my other property. Does that mean I can only book 8 months out or less because I am using options from another property to make up the options needed for the 2 bedroom??

Also can I only book 12 months out at my WKV home resort only in the season I purchased in?

Correct, you need to wait until 8 months out to book something other than what you own using SO's.

Correct, you can only book what you own during the home resort period (12-8 months out). If you want to book in another season, you need to wait until 8 months out, and you are using SO's at that point...

Here is a simple way to remember it:

Any time you are reserving EXACTLY what you own: resort/season/unit - you can reserve at 12-8 mos out.

Any time you are making a Staroption reservation - you can reserve at 8 mos. out.

mandoggy, ... As capjack says, you can book your Platinum Plus Premium 1-br now with the 81,000 WKV StarOptions. However, that is all you can book at WKV as of now. You can only book something similar to what you own during the home resort reservation period (at 12-8 months in the season you own); you are not allowed to add available StarOptions from another resort (or, even, WKV) and book a 2-br unit at WKV in the home resort reservation period when you only own a 1-br in the appropriate season.

However, if you call and find a 2-br available at WKV at the close of the 12-8 month home resort reservation period, you may cancel your 1-br home resort reservation (without fee or penalty) and immediately pick up that 2-br reservation at WKV by using the 81,000 StarOptions that are returned to your account and adding 67,100 StarOptions otherwise available in your account to pay the 148,100 necessary StarOptions for a Platinum Plus (weeks 1-21, 50-52) 2-br at WKV. Isn't there a $29 cancellation fee applied when you cancel more than 1 day after making the reservation? (Maybe not for Elites) ;)

I would strongly recommend you consider doing this even with the extra call. March is peak season in Scottsdale, and if you wait until 8 mos. out, you may not find any availability. If you really don't want to call, at least put in a request via MSC today. Of course, if you can't get by with a 1 bedroom unit, it may be a moot point.

This morning I called to make Mar. 23 reservations for a WKV & SDO units. I was able to make the large one bedroom premium reservations for WKV & SDO, but the small one bedrooms at SDO were already gone. Same thing happened last week for the Mar. 16 small one bedroom reservations at SDO.

Best wishes,

Glorian

I have found that Starwood does not charge the cancellation fee if you are cancelling a home resort reservation to try and book with SOs.

okwiater, ... "Isn't there a $29 cancellation fee applied when you cancel more than 1 day after making the reservation? (Maybe not for Elites)"

The $29 cancellation fee for cancellation is paid by Elites. I am 5 Star Elite but have always been charged $29 for canceling SVN reservations made 8 months or less from arrival more than 1 day after the reservation is made. I have never been charged a penny for timely canceling a home resort preference period reservation made 12-8 months from arrival.

It is not a benefit of Elite membership because it is not listed as such on Starwood's mystarcentral web site. It has never been explained to me as a benefit of Elite membership. It has been explained as a waiver due to the reservation being made during the home resort preference period. And, I called Elite Services again this morning and was told a timely (more than 60 day from arrival) cancellation of any home resort preference period reservation is without a fee.

That's because, IMO, a home resort reservation made during the preference period (12-8 months) is different from an SVN reservation (8 months or less). Starwood is always careful to delineate between these 2 different types of reservations.

It's easy to cancel reservations made week by week (as every home resort preference period reservation must be made). However, SVN period reservations can be made for any period of time as long as a starting or ending date is a check-in day.

(I admit most SVN period reservations are probably made in one week intervals and further admit that one week home resort reservations can be cancelled less than 8 months from arrival. However, Starwood must draw the line somewhere for charging or not charging. And, has chosen to waive the fee for owners reserving their week in their season during the home resort preference period.)

So, for SVN reservations, the $29 cancellation fee applies for cancellations made more than 1 day after the reservation was made.

For canceling a home resort reservation (prior to 60 days from arrival date) there is no fee and the StarOptions are returned to the account unrestricted. Salty

Thanks for the extra information that will be helpful in the future. On this trip however we do need a 2 bedroom as we have 4 adults and 2 kids. Thanks for the great advice!
