My tip for the sales staff. "Don't waste your time on me, maybe the next person is interested."

For a fun day you might think about https://www.ranchobanderas.com/specials/ - this is a small resort that has an All-Inclusive Day Pass. It has a great beach, beautiful clear water, the food is really good, and the staff is super. Currently it is $50 PP per day, or 850 Pesos PP per day.10AM - 6PM which includes everything you eat & drink during that time.

The taxi fare from Vidanta is more than we like to spend, but when we took the bus to Punta Mita, it was cheap. We went both ways last year from Buganvilias.

If you have not been to Bucerias, that is also a great experience. Any of the beachfront restaurants are good. I like the first one (orange & white) El Chivero has good restrooms :).

Salulita is kind of a one time experience for us. We have been twice so that our "kids" could see it. They liked it but it is not on their list again - but they would go back to Rancho Bandaras in a heartbeat! (We even stayed there for a week last year!)

I have a hunch that once your child discovers all there is to do on-site that he is not going to want to leave ;-)

Historically I have found that when I have no options of tours/activities that I feel a little caged in (not just talking about Vidanta). But if I have a list of things to do I can sit and relax (with a cold beer of course) and read a book all day, just knowing I could be doing them if I wanted to...and I generally don't ;-)

Have a great time.
