We booked a cruise to take our granddaughter on right after she is out of school for the summer. It is a Caribbean Cruise which we fly to Florida, hotel for a day then 7 day cruise. It is already fully paid for. We haven't booked our flight yet from San Jose California. When the cruise returns we have to fly our granddaughter to her Dad's in Kentucky.
How long do you think we should wait to book the flights or with the Coronaviros do you think we should just cancel?
Not much info. from Princess except they haven't cancelled as of now.

I say... Don't cancel. Book your flights. Go & enjoy.
Just wash hands frequently, for at least 20 seconds.

We have a cruise out of Boston in May and a trip to Europe in June.
We already have our flights for both.

Thinking of coronavirus, if you book your air through the cruise line, they'll refund it if for any reason the cruise is cancelled or delayed. They also will handle transfers to/from the ship. It might cost a little more, but the peace of mind is worth it.

The question is whether you have underlying conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart and lung issues. If you or anyone in your party does, then you need to ask yourself if it is worth taking a risk. If not, enjoy your trip.

This.

We went this route on our first cruise (hadn't known about trip insurance). Good thing we did, as the plane coming to get us to head for cruise departure port was delayed elsewhere. Many other flights and a hotel stay, caught up to the cruise the next day.

If you go all in on cruise line air, they will go all in for you. We were shocked, but, thankful, as there is no way we could have afforded new extra flights.

eta... while we did not have our luggage, it was waiting for us when we landed in port city. Cruise was looking for us, knew who we were.

Unless you were planning on using points to travel, many people on my recent Antarctica cruise found that the airfare Princess offered was comparable to what they could get with the airline direct and they now had the added benefit of the cruise line taking responsibility if there were flight delays.

We fly in 3 days early and back 2 days after (fingers crossed).
Airlines are waiving fees, so this could be a good time to make changes... if fares drop.

After my first experience, I would want to be there early, leave late. I don't think cruise air will do this. but, maybe!

Just a quick note on trip insurance. With most policies, it has to be taken when you book the trip, not later.

When booking our own air, we ALWAYS have a day cushion before and almost always fly out a day after disembarkation. It just relieves the 'what if' pressure.

Correct. If only to assure coverage for pre-existing conditions. You don't have to estimate the complete cost, as long as you get it in in time- like within a week or 10 days of paying the initial deposit. We do that, then add on any additional trip-related expenses, like the air fare, shore excursions, car rentals, etc.

Viking will do that but you will be responsible for your own lodging/meals/etc of course.

Many airlines are only waiving change fees on new ticket purchases, basically trying assure people considering new travel. If you bought a ticket in January, you may still be charged a change fee

No way I'd get on a floating petri dish. I wish you good luck. If you have bad luck, we'll see your ship on the 11:00 news

No way I'd get on a floating petri dish...

It's not affecting my cruising plans.
Each year, about 350 cruise ships carry about 32 million passengers (per CLIA)
We've only heard about 3 ships with Pacific itineraries that have been affected.
Considering all possible misfortunes, this one is barely worth a notice.

OP: JetBlue extended their "free cancellation" offer yesterday to include the summer months. This would be an option for you to book now and still cancel later if you needed to.
Change & Cancel Fees Waived for New Bookings
Last Updated: 3/5/2020 6:00 p.m. ET
Due to evolving coronavirus concerns, we are extending the suspension of JetBlue change and cancel fees for all new flight bookings made between March 6, 2020 and March 31, 2020 for travel through September 8, 2020.

Yep, I'm thinking of booking a cruise due to can't-pass-up rates with no single supplement. I'm not afraid of dying from corona. At least quarantined on a cruise ship I'd get room service, which I can't get at home.

I don't like to fly, like, ever, and it jacks up trip price more than I can handle right now. living in landlocked midwest, deciding which ports I wouldn't mind driving to.

JMHO... I would postpone the trip and reschedule it after this is all over.

I’ve placed our August Orlando trip with my nieces on hold for now (Disney Cruise and amusement parks). I’m planning to cancel our Disney Cruise, if the situation hasn’t improved before our final payment is due in May.

We book airfare through Princess, and they seem to offer the same rates that you can get through other travel or airline sites. If you book through Princess, you can even change flights with no penalty, up until you make your final payment. When the price went down, we canceled the first booking and rebooked at the lower price. You can pick any flights you want, but if you can, use Princess to book a hotel the night before the ship departs. They'll meet you at the airport, take you to the hotel, and next morning, take you directly to the ship.

We have a cruise booked in August, and our final payment isn't until May. At least we have time to see what happens with the virus before we have to decide.

Tough call. Most people wouldn't get on a cruise ship now even if it were free is what some poll concluded. It seems we are probably changing plans for a trip or two that are in populated areas. I like desolation better anyway.

The 'problem ' is industry wide. As soon as somebody in a timeshare or hotel dies of c-virus, the whole travel industry will also collapse. It's just a matter of time.

Do what you want, if you can. The State Department is now saying DO NOT go on a cruise, especially if you have underlying health conditions.

We decided to cancel. Wouldn't want to chance being quarantined or separated from our 12 year old Granddaughter. We also had a hotel planed for before and a timeshare week in Florida planned. The part that's hard on us is we only had the one week for the cruise since it was after she's out of school and before her Dad gets her for the summer. Will just have to do it next year. Before the virus we had figured the cruise this year and Hawaii with her next year.
