I have travel credit to use up with Amex (not BONVOY card as I am in EU), however I recall if I book a Marriott hotel through any third party I do not get the entitlements that I would directly, such as breakfast, lounge access, late check out? I am not bothered with the points/nights credit.

Usually you get the perks at the hotel, but not the points, its always been that way for me.

As with everything Bonvoy, it depends...on what, who knows? I used AMEX travel to book at two-night stay at the Marriott Hilton Head Resort a couple of years ago to take advantage of one the AMEX Platinum perks, and I got the night credit and points for the stay.

By rule you only get your entitlements if you book through AMEX Fine Hotels and Resorts and *not* the basic AMEX travel website. In reality, it's completely up to the hotel or resort.

I think that's how I booked my reservation I noted above.

Hmm I am not sure I want to take the chance, I feel its unfair not to get titanium benefits if I stay at Marriott even if I didn't book with them but hey hoy their rules are not always fair!!

In most cases, those other sites are selling at a cheaper rate than Marriott.com. You decide whether the cheaper rate is worth the loss of Bonvoy benefits. They also pay a commission to those third party travel sites. That site is really getting your Bonvoy benefit in the way of commission.

I always just book direct for that reason but in this case have 250€ Amex hotel credit to use, so I guess for 2 nights better to just pay for breakfast and not bother with the lounge if not included that loss the credit.

I have found that AMEX is one of the few where you DO get your benefits. I think it is part of them offering marriott gold status to members. why offer the status if it isn't honored? I have stayed several times using the amex card to book and have always received my platinum benefits.

The only times I have had an issue is if the third party can’t attach my Bonvoy number in some way. I’d call the hotel after the reservation is made to ensure it shows up and being attached. If it is showing in the Bonvoy app you should be good.

A lot of travel (airline, hotel, cruise, and rental car) companies don't give bonuses on 3rd party bookings. It's not just Marriott. For instance, with AmEx, they say you get the bonus miles/points if you book through AmEx Travel or directly with the card. It's not unfair, that is travel business as a whole. Another example is getting in a collision and going through insurance. They will tell you where to take it, but if you take it elsewhere, they won't pay the full cost. Or an HMO, go to their providers (in-network) or pay 100%.

If you want the best price, follow the rules, plain and simple.

Exactly what I am doing is asking the rules, as I am unclear........
