If I've posted in the wrong area, I'm grateful that you're giving a TUG newbie a pass.

Let me preface this question with sharing that we've owned Disney Vacation Club since 2000, and couldn't be more pleased.

I've found a resale for a floating week in New Orleans at the proverbial "offer I can't refuse." But since I've been dealing with DVC points all these years, and love the flexibility that offers, I'm just trying to wrap my head around the whole weeks vs. points schema. Are you happy with your week? Your points? Do you have experience in both?

Any advice from you BG pros? I'd add, too, that we went to a sales pitch in Charleston for BG some years ago and it wasn't too unpleasant - but I knew that I could do better resale.

I appreciate your timely help in advance!

Not sure if you are aware, but there is an active Bluegreen group on yahoo.com that may provide lots of the comments/opinions/advice you are looking for. There may be a link to that site, by the way, on BocaBums TUG record.

Thanks! I'll track it down. In the meantime, if anyone on TUG has intel that might be helpful, I'd sure appreciate it.

If you are buying Blue Green in New Orleans that has to be Club La Pension...I own 2 weeks there

Blue green recently bought the unsold developer weeks there as well as the streetfront commercial units and they now manage the property. As I understand it there are two classes of ownership... One are the weeks owned as floating weeks ..and two, the units available to Blue Green points owners. I dont think I can reserve a "points" unit and I dont think points owners can reserve a unit sold as floating weeks.

The first thing BlueGreen did when they took over this place is to close it down for a year, impose a $1580 special assessment and for 2012 raise the mf significantly. They are expected to re open March 1 2012 but the manager says they hope to be open for Mardi Gras

I have talked to the Blue Green folks twice to make reservations (you cant do it online) and pay my mf. They have been very helpful explaining the rules that apply here and in making my reservations.

I have been following the renovations online and this place will be a showplace when they are done...send me a pm and I will send you the url and a user name and password to access the progress reports and pictures they have posted. You can also review the original condo docs for this place with all the rules and procedures they set up for floating weeks

Ive seen these weeks advertised as 52 week floating weeks . Thats not exactly true. There are special event weeks not available to the common weeks owner..Mardi Gras, the week before Mardi Gras, the two weeks of Jazz Fest, the Sugar Bowl and the French Quarter Fest are reserved for the folks that own weeks 8 and 9 Mardi Gras, week 15 (I think) the French Quarter Fest, weeks 17 and 18 Jazz Fest and week 52 Sugar Bowl. So if you are buying there to get one of these special events, dont...Otherwise I think this is a great place...If you can get one of these special weeks , absolutely, do it

bTw there is an ebay auction ending in 2 hours for a 2 bedroom ..no bidders so far...if I didnt already have 2 weeks there Id buy it.

I don't own in New Orleans but do own a floating BG week at Christmas mountain Village. Actually I own a few weeks but that's another thread.

Anyway, since you're a DVC owner, I am too, I'll tell you that weeks works totally different than points.

With a BG resale you get bonus time included at your home resort but only at your home resort. If you want bonus time that is good throughout the BG system then you'd need to buy qualified points thru a broker like BocaBum. If you have no desire for bonus time at anyplace other than New Orleans than you're fine in that respect.

I have to call in to make my reservations to the BG counselors. They are very helpful just like the DVC CM's. I don't believe that weeks owners can book online but I may be wrong on that. I know with my UDI I cannot. :annoyed:

IMO, you should study the BG system before making a purchase unless this is a week you are going to use for yourself. I do find that depositing my weeks to RCI is easy as pie once I book my units with BG. It's not as easy with II or the independents but almost everyone seems to take BG weeks at most resorts so you'll have alot of exchange options.

If you're thinking of doing shorter trips to the other BG resorts in the system then you might want to consider buying points over a floating week. I imagine that in New Orleans just like DVC having the home priority will be important for special events.

Thanks, all. After doing what I consider thorough research, I've elected to pass on this one. We tend to take more shorter trips of 4 or 5 nights rather than a week at a stretch, so a points system seems to be a better match.

I'll be in New Orleans next week for a couple of days, and I'll at least drive by and take a look at the property. *sigh.*

One thing I'm readily aware of is that stuff comes up for sale All. The. Time. So I can wait patiently. Or should, anyway. ;)

Points vs weeks confused

I'm looking at a bluegreen TS (resale) at the Foundations in Orlando. It's listed as 20,000 points but then lists the weeks reserved. My question is if it's listed as points does that mean they are floating points or could they be points just for the weeks listed?
If they are not floating points but rather weeks can I simply to a week(s) to RCI (or other exchange company) for points that I could use at other places?
Also does anyone on here know the value of a Foundations red week if it was deposited into an RCI account?
Sorry for the elementary questions but totally confused on this TS stuff.

thanks
