Good things to say, so far:

We checked in yesterday, around 13:00. 2 BDRM unit was not ready - but I mentioned that we had groceries in the car and PRESTO. Unit switch (to the bigger 2 bdrm) and we were in.

Even though the resort is in the Orlando area and seems to have stuff geared for kids, the place is really nice and quiet. Washer and dryer in the unit (OK - what is it with these quiet washers??? They sound like a laser printer!! We are a front-loader kinda couple, but if I was to ever buy a top loader...)

Went out to watch UFC last night, so we haven't been around the place yet. Cypress Pointe is right accross the street and looks very nice.

$10 fee for all week internet is VERY reasonable (unlike the $50 at Mystic Dunes)

All in all - quite a pleasant suprise.

Hi! I am also at Blue Tree this week. Let me know if you want to meet at one of the pools for a mini-TUG GTG.

Hi, Neighbor.

Hey, our timeshare(s) are right across the street from Blue Tree. That makes us timeshare neighbors.

When we originally bought in (resale) at Cypress Pointe, Blue Tree was simply Blue Tree.

A few years later, we noticed that Blue Tree had become ( -- shudder -- ) WestGate Blue Tree -- not necessarily a positive development, given WestGate's reputation on TUG-BBS.

I never understood -- still don't -- why a timeshare company whose main business is selling "new" timeshare units would want to buy in as Developer Of Record at an older, sold-out or mostly sold-out timeshare resort. Simply collecting management fees can't be the reason.

And, sure, timeshare companies spare no effort to try to sell current owners more & more full-freight timeshares for big bux, even if the units they're selling aren't at the physical location from which they're selling'm. (When I got a SunTerra "update" sales pitch at Cypress Pointe, they were selling "club" memberships for big bux tied to a deeded full-freight timeshare in Williamsburg VA. Sheesh.)

But unless WestGate bought in at Blue Tree for a song, it's hard to see how access to the Blue Tree owners & exchange guests as hard-sell prospects would be worth spending whatever it took to become Developer Of Record.

Then again, there's lots & lots I don't know about the timeshare biz. (What I do know is just enough to be dangerous.)

So it goes.

Cypress Pointe is very nice, my sister stayed there when I couldn't get an exchange unit in Blue Tree for one of our trips.

Here's what I know about Blue Tree's history (I've owned here since 1982). It was originally built as an apartment complex, when I purchased it was owned by Wyndham. Wyndham moved on and at some point the new developer went bankrupt, that is when Westgate bought all of the unsold units and common areas. The management company for most of the units is SPM. I think SPM does a great job of keeping maintenance fees in line, while keeping the units and grounds in good condition and the employees definitely seem happy.

Sounds great! Give me a time and a pool/shuffleboard/exercise room and we'll be there.

I deposited this week and now my University of Ga "DAWGS" are playing there this week. Enjoy Blue Tree and if you see any "DAWGS", wish them luck for me.

awaywego, Westgate only owns and manages a very small portion of the Blue Tree Resort, even though there name is on the sign out front. SPM is the resort management company for mine and probably 75% of the owners. Westgate is nowhere on my deed of record. Westgate has a completely separate check-in office from the extremely nice 2 story checkin and activities center that SPM owners use. We see there T/S sales teams running around trying to sell units, but for the most part leave the rest of us alone. I have been an owner for about 6 years now after buying resale for a real deal and the times I used it I have thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet although it is only 3 blocks from the Disney Main gate entrance. The grounds are kept up extremely well and the number of pools, heated and unheated are very convenient. I have never had a disappointing stay there. Jerry
