One of my sons lives in SF where many little neighborhood streets where blocked off from traffic, starting a couple of years ago. It gave people in the neighborhood more outdoor space to move around and enjoy the fresh air. It's been so popular that they've decided to keep it as a permanent feature.

And, regarding Bounce Houses, don't they tend to blow away? What's the other danger? Malls are still popular in Phx due to the heat. I noticed one space that was formally occupied by At Home Space store or something is now filled with Bounce Houses. The front area is picnic tables and such. I assume families pay a fee for the kids to roam from one house to another, while the parents relax at the tables. It's sort of a low-budget operation, but interesting.

We used to own one of those large bounce houses (for business purposes). If it is too windy then cannot be used outside. Also have to monitor how many kids inside, weights/sizes etc-if too many older/bigger kids in gets dangerous for the littler ones (think of someone large jumping on up end of teeter totter with smaller kid on down end-that small kid will fly!) Liability insurance got to be too much so sold it. Kids in our neighborhood loved it at the block halloween parties for years though :)

Great news! This summer, neighborhood block parties are back in Chicago but only if you have a Covid Captain to go along w/your permit.

The bad news - bouncy houses are still banned.

It's funny how different parts of country are-our state there is no need for "covid captain" nor need for permit if we do it at end of our cul de sac lol.

Sheriff's helicopter lifts bounce house into the air with kids inside; 3 injured

We recently had a fairly large party. It was nice.

Interesting! I've only seen them at our church festival years ago and remember my kids enjoying it. This makes me wonderful how long the ones in the mall will last.

Well, they must have changed it since your link... It clearly says bouncy houses are ok and even links to where you can rent one... Also no mention of "covid Captain."

Well… after this weekends SUMMER OF JOY events, the city has much bigger issues to contend with.

this weekends SUMMER OF JOY
Seems like every weekend is the Summer of Joy. My "pied de terre" is on E Randolph overlooking the park and I have no desire to go down there anymore.

Uh - good thing you weren't there this weekend. Absolutely unbelievable.

I hang out w/my sig other who lives in the city at State & Delaware. One of the nicest areas in the city. Saturday night we discussed "let's take the dogs out before it gets dark". Crazy that we are having these conversations.

It's like that every weekend in the Loop now... Doesn't have to be dark out, either.

No idea but thankfully I'll be out of town for the holiday weekend.
We now have metal detectors a Millennium Park. That really adds to the charm & ambiance.
