Staying at Sea Mountain, we are a 5 minute walk to the Black Sand Beach and the ocean environs there. For our first day’s walk, I didn’t even take my camera Saturday since we seldom see any turtles there ourselves, except for seeing a head or two occasionally sticking up out of the waves. But this time, they were everywhere: in the water, out of the water, and particularly interesting, close to the rocky shore feeding, then we could see their brown backs …they look like rocks too up close! .. and then their heads came up every now and then. To see that many, we walked to several coves. In one cove, DH saw 7 heads stick up at once!
Monday afternoon, the tide was out and several pools were land-locked, so the turtles were “trapped.” No problem, they were mainly resting on the bottom, but again, close by so we could see them easily.

When you say Sea Mountainn, can you be more specific?

Are you here? http://www.booking.com/hotel/us/sea..._inurl:en.html#inurl:www.booking.com/hotel/us

Can you post something that clarifies what you ar talking about?

It's the second one - the one in Hawaii. (Your first listing is in California.) Nice condo complex, very residential, and not at all resort-like. Relaxing place, and an excellent launching pad for exploring the south end of the Big Island. We stayed there several years ago. If you want to kick back and relax, it's a great place to do it. If you want to eat out in restaurants, it's a bit of a drive. The closest place open at night is in Naalehu, about a half hour's drive away. But as Joan says, the beautiful Black Sand Beach at Punaluu is just down the street.

I've got a photo on the following forum

I don;t want to repeat ..for TUG's sake...or see it on my BLOG
BMW guy is right!
But the nearest restaurant in Naahelu takes us about 10 mintes - it
is 6 miles, and one of our favorites
-Hana Hou, very reasonable and very good! Never had anything that wasn;t delicious.

It;s not so remote...well, ,my brother is up in Kona and we have been going up there several days a week, for 2 weeks now....yes, a trip, but where we "live" down here is SOOOO awesome!

It's in RCI and Patinum Interchange.

And, I've stopped counting turtles, we went down Saturday and saw many more

Only 10 minutes? I remember it being further away. It's been too long. Guess I need to get back there! :) (I may have been thinking of the distance to Volcano town.) But I agree - the food was awesome. The baked goodies from the Punaluu Bakery were pretty excellent, too. Homemade malasadas and fresh Kona coffee? Yum! :)

Thanks for clarifying - there is more than one black sand beach in Hawaii.
