We have booked airfare for Summer 2016 to The Big Island Hawaii.
I do have a request in with II, but am not optimistic.

The rates don't seem too overly inflated on the The Big Island, but I need suggestions....

Traveling with hubby, 14 & 16 yr old boys.
We like to snorkel, beach, bingo, etc. A fun pool is an added bonus, but we will spend the majority of time at beach. I am accustomed to Marriott and Westin Hawaii resorts...I need a/c & nice beds.:cheer:

Looking at :

Kingsland by Hilton Vacations
The Bay Club at Waikoloa Beach
HILTON GRAND VACATIONS CLUB (HGVC) AT WAIKOLOA BEACH RESORT

I appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you

Be aware that because of the topography of the island, very few timeshares are on the beach. Because it's the newest island, much of the coastline is black rolling lava beds - not sandy beaches.

There are nice beaches in the Kingsland area, but you will be driving to them.

Waikoloa Village (where Kingsland + the other Hilton resorts are located.) *The buildings closest to the water are hotels:

All three of the HGVC resorts are nice and very close to each other. Denise is correct, none of three are on the beach. Kings Land is the newest and my personal favorite.. It has fantastic pool area, most amenities of the three but usually costs the most as well.

The bay Club is the oldest and has the biggest units.. It shares facilities with Kohala Suites, aka HGVC @ Waikaloa beach resort.

We love to snorkel as well, "69" is a nearby beach with good snorkeling.. Farther away, Two Step has some fantastic snorkeling on the big island...

Others mad have different opinions, but i never feel the need to hire a boat tour for snorkeling when i am on the big island..

Since your mostly looking at HGVC resorts, you may find more info over in that sub-forum as well.

I think those are all good choice, but you have a request in II? These only trade in RCI.

Kingsland has the best onsite pool for teens. Kingsland and Waikoloa both have free access to all the Hilton hotel pools/waterslides, etc. There's a lot to do over there. If you stay at Bay Club, you'll have larger units, but you have to pay for Hilton Hotel pool access, which may not be a big deal if you only go there for one day or just don't go at all.

There is one tiny beach in the Waikoloa area and I found it very disappointing. If you drive for a little while (not far at all), you will come to a nicer beach. I think it costs $5. to park there.

You could also drive to Kona for the beach, but if you think you'd spend a lot of time in Kona, you may as well just stay there. I haven't stayed at any of the timeshares there, but the location of Wyndham Kona looked very good for adults to be able to walk to beach, have a drink and not have to drive, etc. I've read some good reviews of the Shell properties there, but don't remember exactly which ones.

Is it A-Bay that you are thinking of?

I love this map Denise!! Thank you.
We are willing to pay cash for a place, so open to Waikoloa or Kona area.
Whatever works best for the teens really :)

They loved our trip to Marriott Ko'Olina...why, because they met friends at the pool and hung out with them in the evenings after or day trips :)

Has anyone stayed at the Aston Shores Waikoloa?
There are reasonable II getaway prices available...I just hate that Getaways are non-refundable.

Thx again :)

Haven't stayed there, but it looks like the tripadvisor reviews are pretty good.

Mauna Lani Resort Townhomes

For a very special vacation, I can highly recommend renting a townhome in the Mauna Lani Resort complex. The resort is beautiful and you will have access to the Mauna Lani Beach Club as a renter. There are many different complexes spread throughout the property. We recently sold our property at the Mauna Lani Palm Villas development which was a 3 bedroom/2 bath unit and only has 44 units in total. You could also walk to both the resort and the Mauna Lani shops from the property which is across the road from the Mauna Lani Spa and Fitness Center.

You can find quite a few on VRBO and HomeAway. As an exchange, we love Bay Club because of the size of the units but much prefer the beautiful Mauna Lani property.
