Biennial usage question?

Looking at some resales on eBay and Sellmytimesharenow and I run across this often:

HGVC "Whichever Resort name" 5000 points 2 bedroom Unit, Red Float Week, Biennial-Odd usage

Regarding biennial usage...do you get the 5000 points ANNUALLY and are just guaranteed your home resort every two years? Just curious how the biennial thing works.

Thanks -

You only get the points and use of your resort during the use year - in your example, only during the odd years.

Thanks DeniseM, that's helpful. I wouldn't but into a package that only allowed me to use it every other year.

Dorian,
I own a few biennials and I use them every year by borrowing half my points ahead. It helps me keep my fees low and feeds my timeshare addiction without drowning in fees. I like having a toe hold in several systems. If you budget properly you can get several weeks of vacation out of a biennial ownership. ;)

Thanks chriskre

I was also considering an RCI annual with 90k+ points, 700 MF and an RCI triannual with something like 50/k+ points, 500 MF and just have that every third year with an extra payment. I could live with that and give me a yearly average of about 110k + points.

I am far (weeks/months) from deciding but that was one of my considerations.

I own a biennial week. When I deposit it with SFX, I normally get bonus weeks. I can use those weeks for the year of the deposited week and I can hold off on using the deposited week until sometime in the future.

Could also do this with RCI if you bought a lock off unit that gave you a high enough amount of TPU's biennially so you would only pay MF's every other year but would have plenty of points to do bookings thru RCI. Better yet buy something that is dual affiliated with RCI and II and might as well buy something that works with SFX too. Most of the other independents will take pretty much anything so they'd be covered. Then you'd have a very versatile ownership that regardless of what RCI throws your way you'd have other options. I'm definitely into buying versatile units. I want it to do everything, RCI points, TPU's, II, allow renting and have a mini system as well with bonus time. Do you think I'm asking for too much out of one ownership?

I think you have very reasonable expectations, just as I do - the only thing that seems to get in the way are RCI's, II's, SFX's, PI's, TPI's and Redweek's PROFIT expectations.

To each his / her own...

I wouldn't buy into a package that only allowed me to use it every other year.

Some folks love biennial ownerships. It might, for example, be a situation (Key West, FL comes immediately to mind for me) where it's a great place to visit, but with high travel costs and very high maintenance fees. In such an instance, biennial ownership works for some people. Other folks have an "odd year" ownership in one place and "even year" ownership at a very different location. Opoortunity for annual vacation, but with a "mix and match" component.

That's why there are so many different flavors of ice cream --- different strokes for different folks... ;)

I have been thinking that as an option as well Theo. It would be really nice to have two places that you really like to travel to for each year.

You'll want options. It's nice to have someplace to go every year it just might be nice for it not to be the same place every year, that's why points in a mini system owned bienially can be a nice thing. ;)

I own an EOY unit and since it's a lockoff I still manage to get a week every year after depositing both halfs with II.
