I've decided I want to get a bike. I want a bike that has a comfortable seat and does not need me to bend over like crazy to ride it... It will just be to get some exercise and ride around the neighborhood.

From my research, I believe I need a Cruiser bike as it should put me in a more upright position. I have googled a bunch of suggestions but I want to hear from people that have bikes and what ones work for them...

If you have a bike that you love, can you share the name and style you have...

Can I put in a plug for your local bike shop? They will have the type of bike you are looking for, and you want to ride before you buy. You will know when you have found the fit you like.
And, even better, they will be available to keep your bike in tip-top shape! And, you might even find a group you will enjoy riding with - not a requirement, but could be a nice option.

Patti got a hybrid. It is not a Mountain Bike but also not a Road Bike. It has all the gears, but thicker tires. She added a Pink Basket. She got it at a local shop not a major chain.

You want a comfortable seat and upright handlebars that are raked back 'porteur style' toward the rider so you don't have to bend over too ride. That style handlebar makes it convenient to mount a basket or attach a front panier. The classic cruiser bike is typically comprised of a steel frame and components which makes the bike stable and comfortable, but heavy to lift and maneuver. I would take the advice of a bike shop and consider an aluminum 'hybrid' frame bike with a comfort seat and handle bars that let you sit more upright when peddling. Good exercise for us seniors!

you likely want one with 7 gears-not just a pure cruiser, if you have even the slightest of grade in your neighborhood. mine has upright handlebars--you definitely want that. fyi-bikes stores have very low supply due to surge of interest in biking during C19.
DD rode a Reid bike this summer--loved it. From Australia-must buy from a dealer. I have a low end 26" Ladies Schwinn Candis, Light Blue from Walmart that works just fine for 55+ cruising around the neighborhood. out of stock--but that's the look of what you might want--it's called a comfort bike.

I have a simple Schwinn cruiser from Target. It has 7 speeds, comfy seat, wide easy handlebars, good wheels. It’s the most comfortable easy riding bike you can get, but definitely not meant for riding on mountain trails

Another good thing about shopping at your local bike shop is that some will provide free or discounted tune-ups for bikes purchased there.

Maybe an electric bike in a cruiser style with a big seat for comfort.

I went to Boulder to buy my bike. I couldn't believe all of the shops there were. Now that I am ten years older, I definitely do not like bending over. I want a bike that lets me sit more upright.

I have to agree after a certain age you don't want to bend over or lift your leg way up to get on the bike to ride. Cruiser style it is. I agree with some gears at least since there will be hills. I am getting tempted by ebikes as I think I might ride more if I didn't have to worry about hills. Unfortunately my husband doesn't like to ride so we stick mostly to walking.

I’m a certain age and weight (ahem) and after test driving a few bikes I got a Benno. Love it!!! 7 gears, all terrain tires, snazzy color. My second favorite was the Jamis.

I use my bike to travel all over in my area including running errands. It’s a great way to exercise without knowing it!
