Best way to get to Kauai

My son is going to fly to Kauai in the beginning of August from Hartford, CT. He would like to meet up with my other son in Oakland, CA the night before and then both fly to LIH together the next day. I see ATA has a direct flight from OAK to LIH. Is this airline dependable? I know it is part of SWA, but never have flown on it.

Also, what is the cheapest way to fly from BDL to OAK or SFO? Any charter airlines that might have non-stops? Thanks for your help.

I've flown ATA to Hawaii twice and I think they're as dependable as any other airline.

Last April OAK-Hilo no problems. The return flight was oversold and they asked for volunteers to be bumped. About 5 years age SFO-OGG flight was delayed about 4 hours due to problem with aircraft requiring a replacement that had to come from LAS. This was before their affilation with SWA.
