Best way to get out of Wyndham Owner Update? "all time slots are already booked!"

So I have to admit ive heard and experienced all sorts of situations when checking in and or scheduling a sales presentation, but I have never heard anyone say "sorry sir, we dont have any time slots available during your stay"! however that just happened to me this week at ocean walk! Wyndham must be selling like hotcakes!

now admittedly this is a monday thru friday stay and im sure not being available during the top two normal check-in days (sat/sun) had something to do with it and the check in attendant did say they are at capacity despite the storm that just came through (this actually surprised me more!) but sure enough, there were no bookable presentations until after our check out! While its nice to avoid the presentation, I did still have to sit at the concierge desk for 15min while this all got sorted out...so it didnt really save me any time at check in...but ill also chalk that up to my late arrival due to the storm etc, not really wyndhams or the resorts fault there.

anyway, I thought I had heard it all before, but this was a new one!

Brian,

This might be their polite way of saying you are on the do not book list. And as the founder and owner of tug (timeshare developer sales #1 enemy 🤣) I’m not surprised. I’m actually surprised you are not black listed by all major timeshare developers. There are several reasons Wyndham will not book someone for presentations including too many tours and no sales, some resorts don’t want to see resale owners, bad credit (Wyndham pulls a soft credit score to see if someone pre-qualifies), litigation with developer (obviously if someone has sued you would not want to invite them on a presentation), and several other reasons I’m sure I am not thinking of.

Maybe, but I've been on the do not book/sell list for 5 years and they've never told me they're out of time slots - they simply don't even mention the possibility of a meeting.

id originally thought that but he was holding the tablet right in front of me scrolling thru the calendar/slots and they were all greyed out.

id tried to decline the presentation at the start, yet the concierge was fine with giving me the freebies (water park tickets and $100 gift card) to attend...since my kids did want to go to the water park I agreed. was going to ask to record the presentation anyway.

however I fully believe there were no tours available or he was the best actor ever in conjunction with that tablet. a line was forming behind me and my kid had to go to the bathroom so I finally returned the gift items and said thanks for trying and went up to the room.

did get a voicemail today on my cell phone stating that remarkably they have found some open slots to allow me to attend a presentation and got a 2nd call that I actually answered just now!

"we had a number of cancellations today and will actually DOUBLE your reward if you can attend today at noon"

this should be good!

will continue to update this story as I know everyone is on pins and needles! =)

So just for clarity's sake - what is the current "double" offer? We like to keep track of the offers folks get for attending sales updates so for those of us who are prone to subjecting ourselves to such events can get the most bang for our buck!

well, story did not have a happy ending!

they were firm on the requirement that my wife attend with me and I wasnt willing to pull my two kids away from the pool/beach to make that happen. they did note that "you can bring your kids with you" which generated an audible chuckle from me. After repeating that I would be happy to attend (and all I was interested in would be the water park tickets as im taking my kids there tomorrow anyway), they still were not willing to waive the wife requirement and that was that.

In a different plot twist, all 4 of our key cards did NOT work when returning to the room a few minutes ago...thought that was a bit extreme a penalty for declining a sales presentation!

guess my issue at check in (we were a day late) caused a glitch...but my wife found it less than amusing!

should make for a hekuva review if our vacation keeps up like this!

he clarified by saying I could pick TWO of any of the free gifts they were offering, vs just one.

Options were: 125 gift card, a 7 night stay at any other wyndham resort, a 3 day margaritaville cruise, 20k wyndham rewards points, or a daytona sunset cruise (are in daytona)

After 40+ years of T/S ownership, I am no longer "an owner"
Interesting chain of events for you and your family.

Seems like a decent offer. The value of the GC and 20k reward points is straightforward but how would you know the value of the other gift choices?

There have been three different times where they didn't have a slot for us to attend. This was caused by the lack of salesmen that didn't show up. One time, they asked us to come back the next day, one time they gave us all the gifts and we didn't attend a presentation and one time they added an extra $50 and 2 more rounds of golf if we came back later that day.

We just checked in at Ocean Walk yesterday and got the hard sell on the sales presentation. It took almost 30 minutes before the rep and the manager gave us the wristbands they were holding hostage. Far different than Panama City last year when I only had to say no twice.

Two things:
1) At Ocean Walk we have constantly found the room not ready so we can't give you your keys. They spend the remaining time pushing for a presentation.
2) How can we get on the "DO NOT BOOK LIST"? Our Wyndham time almost always comes with a hard sell.

Thanks

I noticed after 4pm on friday there was already a long line waiting at the "concierge" desk for wristbands....can only imagine how that went during sat/sun!

Yesterday I received an email invite to a 4 course dinner and open bar “for owners only” on Monday night. They would provide transportation. The location is an excellent restaurant on the beach

They also mention an “owners update” with gifts offered the following days, as if they were two very different things.

At the bottom was the very fine print. If you don’t attend the update, you have to pay full market value for the meal you enjoyed

I’ll skip the meal, and sales pitch, and watch a nice sunset instead.

This is for HGVC. When we bought our first unit, back when prices were reasonable and sales people were honest, I might have attended. However, one HGVC presentation was enough to find lying is perfectly acceptable to them. They got no $$$ then, nor will they in the future.

You can often skip the "concierge" if you don't want the wristbands. The front desk still gives you a room key that works just fine to get into the room and parking.

this is actually good to know, as that was NOT offered up to me as an option by the front desk attendant... though in my case when i arrived the room was not available.
