Hi - We're working on booking a week into The Cliffs (Kauai) for late next year. We're Shell members and can book through them, but it would be advantageou$ to book through SFX, as we have some Bonus time coming. Has anyone booked Cliffs (or other Hawaii spots for that matter) through SFX? How did they do relative to Shell, TPI, etc? If we don't use Shell, we'd like to get a sense of the best place to bank our SVC week. Thanks for any advice / observations.

The cliffs is one of the easier places to get...RCI, II, Trading Place and SFX all seem to get a fair quantity. I have seen the 4 bedroom units on Trading Places and RCI.

I am actually always suprised at this because The cliffs is our favorite on the north shore after shearwater.

We are staying at Hanalei Bay for the first time in 2012 so that may impact where it ranks but definitely prefer it over the other Pahio or Makai club.

Alli Kai we have only toured but it may be ok as well

Agreed - very easy exchange.

HTSE is located on Kauai and they get a lot of deposits from the mid-range resorts. If you deposit a Hawaii week with HTSE, early enough, they will give you two exchanges. Then put in an ongoing request.

I like Hawaii timeshare exchange because they don't "weight" their deposits. Any deposit can trade for any exchange of the same size. You can upgrade from a 1 bdm. to a 2 bdm. for $175. To check out their inventory - go to www.htse.net and put 9999 in the top box and htse in the bottom box. Note that the online inventory is the leftovers, after ongoing requests have been filled (just like RCI and II.)

Memberships:

$49.00 - One Year

$125.00 - Three Year

$199.00 - Five Year

Exchanges:

$79 - Internal Exchange (return to home resort)

$99 - Hawaii/U.S. Mainland Resorts

$109 - International

Upgrades:
$175 - Studio to 1bdrm or 1bdrm to 2bdrm

$275 - Studio to 2bdrm

Ah...thank you both. SFX had been pretty non-committal about their chances of getting a "good" unit and that had me concerned, but it sounds like they do OK. We'll leave the Cliffs search with them for a while, and will also recheck HTSE.

Happy Thanksgiving.......our next one will be in Hawaii.

I know tastes and interests vary, but do you have a favorite building at Cliffs? From the layout map, it looks like bldgs. 7-8-9 would be superb places to watch a sunset, adult beverage in hand. What are the views & cliff access like at Shearwater?

Again, thanks for your input.

My understanding is the buildings you mentioned are typically given to owners vs exchangers.

We were in Building 2 and had a lovely garden view. I don't know if they have finished with the refurbishment of the units (they were doing them a little at a time) but I would definitely request an upgraded unit.

They have a nice little area in front of the front units with a hammock where we would go to watch the sunsets

Shearwater is directly on the cliff and all but 1 or 2 units have fabulous views
