So it seems that our kids are actually going to settle down in Truckee. The closest resort location to their place is Northstar. We used to be able to pick up weeks through II pretty regularly but of course those weeks dried up, but I haven't seen them in RCI either. I seem to remember that they were moved into Registry Collection perhaps? Is there a way to *easily* access those weeks through the Welk or Hyatt system? Is Welk pure points so you cannot own at Northstar? Are there any resale restrictions for reserving a particular property? We don't ski anymore so we don't need ski weeks and I am not particularly looking for summer weeks either - mostly spring and fall weeks. Any tips for getting into this property?

I just searched Northstar. Availablility in Oct./Nov. of this year is wide open. And a week in a studio is 430 points -- so that means it's Bronze season in the late fall.

Thank you for that information. It is very helpful. Is that through Hyatt or using Welk - or is it all the same now? I would actually prefer to get into Hyatt anyway but if it's easier to get in via Welk then I could consider that as well.

That is ONLY using Hyatt. Welk is part of Hyatt in name only, which [peeves] most of us. If you're OK with four-day mid-week stays, you could spend a lot of time there in Spring and Fall for not a whole lot of HRC points.

That makes things very interesting! We just got back from a week with the new baby/new parents. I am thinking that 3 or 4 days might have been better lol.

piggy backing this thread. I live in Bay area and am looking for a way to stay at Northstar every year right before holiday week. Is the best way to buy a welk northstar resale for ski season? If it’s too expensive or rare I’m also considering a heavenly timber lodge resale. Any comments welcomed. Thanks.

There are 7 weeks available at Northstar Club through ThirdHome going for between 6 and 9 keys. 3 or 4 BRs, a couple in September. Another 29 weeks in the Truckee area outside of Northstar.

I do see a ton of homes that look like they are fractionals on the local MLS, now that you mention it. Maybe I should figure out how to get into Third Home instead.

Self answering. I researched some. I check hyatt hotel webpage and I can book Northstar lodge for a short stay for 2023 ski season with cash. Except for a holiday week, the price is comparable to the annual maintenance fee for the required points for the stay. So, my conclusion is that buying welk points to stay at Northstar is not a good idea.

Back to the topic of this thread, now world of hyatt has more inventory at Northstar?

There still may be a use case for buying Welk points to access this property. The weekly price is heavily dependent on which week. Week 52 is $14k for a two bed and $21k for a three bed vs week 5 $4300 for a two bed and $5300 for a three bed. Even at the lower cash per week price point, Welk points is the less expensive option (assuming your initial cost basis is near zero from an eBay purchase and only accounting for maintenance fees). I am not a Welk owner, but have looked into doing this. If it could be done for week 52, it would be a big win.

I see thanks for the input! In my case, I want just a short stay like 3 nights since I live in 4 hrs drive away Bay Area. For a short stay, it seems that the availability gets lowered since the Welk's booking window is 6 months. I will do more research :)

add:

I was wrong about the booking window for a short stay. Not sure how many rooms would be available in 9 months advanced for non peak ski season like Mar. or early Apr. The information is very crucial for my decision but I don't know yet.
