Hello,
Thank you in advance for your patience with my lack of knowledge on how to navigate the system here. I am from Canada, the exchange rate has made the yearly mtnc fees out of reach to justify the 81,000 Star Options. I've used them a lot in Hawaii, but with the latest increase, it's hard to justify.

Questions: How do I sell or unload this time share without paying upfront fees to broker?

Thanks again.

Is it paid off? If so, you can give it away on TUG, at no cost to you:

Based on the StarOptions and week number, this looks like a 2BR Prime (Platinum) season. This should have some value. Perhaps between $1000 and $2000. You can list it in the TUG Marketplace for free (if you are a TUG member). If not, then it will cost $15 to become a member. It should go rather quickly as it is the mandatory phase at SVV.

81K SO would not be lockoff. For platinum season 2BR non-lockoff, there is certainly resale value.

You're right. I actually knew that but I initially thought it might be a lock off High/Gold and started to type that and then actually looked at the StarOption chart and failed to remove "lock off" from my post.

You can list here on TUG, or list it on eBay. If you view completed listings on eBay, that should give you a good idea of what it could go for.

Do not, under any circumstances, give any money to any exit company that offers to sell or get rid of your timeshare for you. Every single one of them is a scam Do not pay any upfront fees to anyone (other than the $15 nominal fee to TUG, or the nominal fee on redweek). No reputable resale broker takes an upfront fee, they take their cut out of the sale.

If you can’t sell this you shouldn’t have much difficulty giving it away, so again, don’t pay any upfront money to anyone, you will both lose that money, and you will still have the timeshare.

The problem is that these units are now fairly rare on Ebay. I just checked and there are no recent completed listings for this specific unit type. There are a few completed listings for the 2BR lock off, but they all ended with zero bids.

I would start out by listing it at $2000 to $2500. They are rare and still highly desired units as StarOption traders. I also wouldn't bother with listing on Ebay and go with the TUG Marketplace. I sold two weeks through TUG several years back. Still kicking myself for selling one of those weeks.

I am not sure listing it for a price will accelerate OP's desire to exit a timeshare they cannot afford to keep.
Offering it for free with the buyer paying for transfer fees through LT Transfers might be the way to go in my opinion.

Offering it for free is an option, but it will probably bombard them with offers. They've probably already been DM'ed. If they really want to expedite exit, they could just contact Marriott Vacations and ask for a deed back.

I also don't see in their post where they were looking to accelerate the exit, just that they find it hard to justify now with increased fees. If they've paid the 2025 fees and plan to use it in 2025, they have a while to unload. If they try to get rid of it now with 2025 fees paid, they may not be able to recoup those fees. Going through a deed back will have them keeping 2025 usage since Marriott Vacations likely won't want to take it with 2025 usage.

Thank you for confirming a few things for me. I truely appreciate you honest advice here. You are correct in that the ownership does state, "Villa Type: Bella 2 Bedroom Villa" Home Season: Prime; VSN Season: Platinum.

Than that is a week that has some value and is one of the better mandatory resales to purchase. If you want out fast and easy, deed it back to Vistana. They will be happy to take it for free and then sell it again as points for tens of thousands of dollars. I still suggest trying to sell it. It might be just as fast, or faster, than giving it back to Vistana. Though you probably want to use 2025 usage in either case and sell it with first use starting in 2026.
