We're headed to the Hyatt Highlands Inn for March 18-25. Flights are pretty expensive right now from Pittsburgh. I expect they'll drop, but you experts may know when is the best window of opportunity. We'll probably fly out of Pittsburgh (we could do Akron/Canton) on March 17 and leave the 27 or 28; flying out of northern CA most likely as we may spend a couple days in San Francisco.

Thanks in advance!

Spring break.

You are bumping into spring break so I would not wait to long but most airline sales are a month or two before travel.

Wow! Lucky you! We live in Salinas about 25 miles from there. Calif Coast is a beautiful place to visit in the spring. Can be a little cool then, tho, so be sure to bring something warm, too. Have a great time!

Depending on the remainder of your trip itinerary, you may wish to expand the list of possible airports to include San Jose and Oakland.

San Jose is 33 miles closer to Carmel than SFO which is a major advantage if you are arriving around rush hour. Oakland is no closer to Carmel compared to SFO, but it has a major Southwest presence. When we play around on Kayak, we frequently see lower fares at both of these airports compared to flying out of SFO.

Last week I booked our flights PIT - SFO for April on United. I used frequent flyer miles for mine and paid $389.00 for my husband.

With March/April spring break months I'd say to do it now.

Isn't there a website for tracking historical data about fares? These days nothing has a pattern, but it wouldn't hurt to look. Hey Mimi, You're just up the road from me!

I just had a cogent thought. I went to Delta (my preferred airline because I'm a million miler with them and have lifetime medallion status so over 50% of the time I'm automatically upgraded to first) and looked at some flights. In particular, I looked at how many seats were available to be picked. Virtually all the flights had PLENTY of seats, so I'll keep looking and wait awhile.
