Sitting here after unpacking. Getting bored with no house to remodel.
Thinking maybe a two week trip to Coastal Maine could take place starting 14 October.
Can't go now due to several doc appointments.

Thought we could maybe see colors on the way up and back. Any suggestions on good routes to take? We don't need snow on the roads!

I would suggest that you drive through Massachusetts on the way back to Albany or nearby and drive down the Hudson River for part of the trip. It is just stunning. You could also continue south through Pennsylvania and into Virginia all the way to Charlottesville heading back to Yorktown on 64.

I would start with a visit to this site http://www.yankeefoliage.com/peak-foliage-forecast-map/ and view the interactive fall foliage map there and then look on the left of the screen for suggested foliage drives in each of the New England states as well as the list of the best foliage towns.

That is a great site. Would be nice to check it daily while on the trip.

It appears we may be too late for anything except the coast on the way back.

Thanks for that tip.

I wonder if the NY State Thruway is one you stop to pay every 5 minutes.

Can the colors of the Hudson be seen from there?

We could go up that way on Oct 16 and come back at the end of Oct. Coastal Maine while in color is our goal. Seeing the country is also desired. If in color, so much the better.

Plan to stop over near Allentown, PA for 2 nights on 14 Oct. Then run to Brunswick, ME. Plan to hold up there a week to run the coast, staying a night near the national park... if we find something we can afford.

Have a couple banked weeks and 370k Wyndam WEEK points. Any GREAT TSs we shouldn't pass up in New Egland this time of year?

For the NY State Thruway, for the most part, you only pay when you enter and exit NYST except for the cities of Buffalo and Albany where you would pay as you approach the city limits.

At another forum I belong to, Columbus Day (observed), plus or minus a few days is usually used for the best time for peak foliage in Bar Harbor ME & Acadia National Park. Just be aware that you won't be alone in your peak foliage quest.

I know we won't be alone, just hoping the weather holds frost off a bit longer.
