Best purchasing option at Hyatt for skiiing

Hi,

I'm looking at what the best option would be if I was interested in a 2-3 br place to ski at. My family has alot of flexibility in terms being about to go during any ski week plus I don't mind about going to CO, UT or CA. Given that we have alot of flexibility in terms of location and dates, does it make sense to purchase at a cheaper Hyatt location and exchange into one of the ski properties? Trying to gauge if ALL the ski weeks are typically reserved before being able to switch into one. Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

I used internal exchange for a four night midweek stay at the Northstar Lodge early February 2021. Three bedroom unit. This was done 12 months in advance. I’m also there for a two night midweek stay President’s Day week. Studio unit. This was at six months. I like the Northstar Lodge. Hyatt does not have many units there. Welk manages the units for Hyatt.

No HRC units in Utah.

My experience with skiing timeshare is that it is all about location during the time period you want at the preferred quality of resort. Given you are asking about Hyatt, you should know that you are really talking about Colorado skiing at Aspen, Beaver Creek, or Breck. Hyatt has no Utah and limited presence at Northstar. And while I appreciate that a number of people really like Northstar, the Colorado skiing is at a different level. If you like Park City or Heavenly, you should buy legacy MVC weeks.

Hyatt's system is relatively unique and you should be aware of the following with regards to their legacy week structure:
1. You own a fixed week at a particular resort. You should be aware that HRC ski weeks have very high MF
2. If you don't want to use your fixed week, then you can trade into another week or resort when that owner relinquishes that week because they want to trade somewhere else, by converting your week to HRC points
3. If you decide to convert to HRC points to trade into another week or resort, it doesn't matter from where you converted your points. All points are created equal and it is first come, first reserve. So, it is a viable strategy to own at a low MF resort like Pinon Point and trade into a Colorado resort during ski season. You do need to be aware that many HRC ski weeks require 2200 points.

My experience has been that I can get trade into all the Breck 2BR/3BR ski weeks that I am interested. I can trade into many of the Jan and March 2BR weeks at Beaver Creek. Trading into Aspen is harder and 2BR weeks are tough to find in prime ski months. And Hyatt really acquired super prime locations for their timeshares so you will be very happy about their ski lodge locations.

My HRC ownership has worked out exactly as I had intended because I am a big fan of Breck - its a fantastic mountain.

Awesome, this was very helpful, thank you! Do you mind me asking, do you own at Pinon Point or a different HRC?

We do love Breck, our favorite in the summer. Of course we are from AZ so bitter cold while skiing is not appealing.

Good thought, thanks for the input. We were actually out at Breck last Feb before all hell broke loose and I was definitely feeling a little bit of altitude sickness in the evenings after a day of skiing.

As an additional data point, we have traded into non-prime ski season (early December / late spring) at all of the Colorado properties over our last four years of owning HRC. I have never seen really prime (like week 52) availability. As Marathoner stated, Breck is easiest followed by Beaver Creek Mountain Lodge, then Aspen and Park Hyatt BC as the most difficult. Our first trip to Northstar is this February. While Northstar is basically non existent in the ski season, there is almost always availability at High Sierra. While High Sierra may not be ski in ski out, they have a shuttle to the local lifts and are driving distance to multiple ski locations near Lake Tahoe. There is an internal wait list, though it has never worked correctly for me, which leads to neurotic checking of availability on the HRC site. Also, HRC has made some $$$ in reservation fees from me grabbing the first ski property to only cancel and grab something else later.
