Looking at Palace Resort on-line and they all look nice. Any advice on the best (newest, largest units, best location, etc) in the Cancun or Rivera Maya area?

Also, are all Palace Resorts all-inclusive or do they have non-AI resorts?

All Palace resorts are mandatory all-inclusive. The best resort depends on if you want adults only, if you are a beach person, or a pool person, if you want lots of kids activities etc.
The #1 resort is LaBlanc it is adults only. Very personalized service. It's the most expensive Palace to visit. The other adult only resorts are Sun, Isla Mujeres and Adventura Spa. My personal favorite is Adventura Spa because it is fairly large with lots of restaurant choices, a great entertainment staff and an awesome Spa. We go almost every year and the staff remembers our name.
If you are going on vacation to snorkel or dive, your best choice is Cozumel.
If you are going to golf, your best choices are Moon or Playacar.
The large resorts for families are Moon and Adventura Cove. Our family prefers Moon or the Cove, just because there is so much to do there. The kids are never bored. Beach, Cancun and Playacar are smaller resorts. I've never been to Vallarta, so I can't give my opinion.
The Hard Rock Palace/Casino in the Dominican is a huge resort.
We have found that the rooms and service is consistent among the resorts. In general the hospitality in Mexico is better than in the Dominican, but we did have a great time at the Hard Rock.
If you are booking through RCI you will get $1500 in Palace dollars to spend if you book a regular priced week. You do NOT get this if you book the "PP-AI" week. If you go as referral of a member, you save approx 10%, you get the $1500 Palace dollars, you get a free mani, pedi & massage and select excursions.

I agree with everything Deb said - just want to add to remember that if you go to one you can visit the others and use the amenities. I also prefer Aventura - but the greatest thing about staying there is that it is so easy to grab a cab and go for breakfast or lunch/drinks at Playacar Palace, then grab the ferry to spend the rest of the day wandering around Cozumel ending with dinner/drinks at Cozumel Palace.

Last year I traded into Beach Palace using I.I. and I did not have to sign up for the AI plan. I brought a hot plate and made breakfast and lunch in the room. We ate out for our dinners. We enjoyed it very much.
