When I go onto II to try this, it always asks me for an exchange destination. I don't see a way around it. MVCI owner services today told me you can't get a week on II without MVCI doing it for you. The II method requires an exchange is what they told me. That has so far matched what I am seeing on II. I followed the path from My Units, used the destinations "resort" and so on as you said.
Thats not how it works for me-
I go to exchange in the blue bar, my units and then I click the vacation exchange button next to my points ownership and then shows me the chart and asks how many points and then I get a normal search page that I see with my weeks.
I agree MVC told me they need to confirm since the systems done communicate.

So, it IS how it works for you. That's what I said, on II, it asks you for an exchange destination, which you just said it did. "and then I get a normal search page that I see with my weeks". That's what I see. But when you call MVCI, they can just get the unit there to exchange any time you want without picking any destination at all.

”they can just get the unit there to exchange any time you want without picking any destination at all.”

what unit? Are you saying MVC deposits something? A week? Points?

Ok, so, what I said (or tried to) was this. If you contact MVCi owner services, not II, you tell them to please give you a high season studio in II for 1750 points. Some amount of time later, it now shows under my units. You can let it sit, trade, whatever. Just like any other "week". So, yes, MVCI deposits it for you. Seems simpler.

But thank you for stimulating this thought! I am finding this to be fantastic news actually.

Lol- that is exactly what I did with my expiring points!
see post 9.

I agree that if you want to exchange on II just let MVC convert points to a week and deposit. But that’s final if they do- your points are gone and you now must use II.

If you want to just look around, see what’s available or try a request and see if it hits then you use the other method and your points are still your own with mvc.

... I just want to confirm that you can use banked points to do that!?

Lol. Then we are not understanding each other, I am not the worlds greatest communicator at times.

But since we now agree on the mechanics, I agree you would now have lost the ability to use them within MVCI, unlike the II method. But understand the dilemma many are in. They have points expiring end of 2020 that were previously banked. Many believe it is very unlikely they will be able to use those points this year, they can't be banked again. So, the thought here is for some, far better to put into II than simply lose the points, or use them on resort credits or such things. That gives one a couple years.

If you go the II route, you might get an exchange, but it may need to be cancelled since we can't predict the future esp this year. In the end, you would likely have less options then. I like the idea of the "week" just sitting there until I am confident. But yes, that requires someone who likes to exchange, like me! Do it every year at least a few times. Always looking for new places to go.

I assume “if you go the II route” means you simply use the points to make an exchange on II and if so then yes you are now under the rules of II if a problem occurs. As I’ve said several times the only reason I can see for someone to do that is if they want to go someplace where they can’t book through mvc and want to retain their points if it is not available. These people would be under the rules of II if they needed to cancel- like many many others that II is dealing with.

Good chatting with you- have a good evening.
Having MVC convert my expiring points into a week and depositing into II was the best choice for me.
