I have a bet with my father in-law regarding losing weight and getting in shape for our family trip to Oahu in August. The pay off is a round of golf, lunch, a hat and shirt from the course of the winners choosing.

Since I have no intention on losing this friendly wager :) ... my initial thought is one of the Turtle Bay courses. I haven't played golf on the island in over 25 years... so I have no idea which course to choose. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I have never played Turtle Bay but drove by it many times and it looks good. I have played Ku'ulau and it is a very nice course but difficult. At one time it was rated as the toughest couse in the country. Lots of shots over hazards.
Haven't played any other on Oahu though.

I'll chime in. Where are you staying and do you mind driving?

The two Turtle Bay courses are great (the Palmer course is the better of the two) but it's a decent drive from Waikiki. The Koolina course is great too (and windy) but it's also a trek from Waikiki. If you're staying near Waikiki and don't want to drive too far, I suggest Luana Hills or Ko'olau (tough course).

Thanks for the replies. We're staying in Waikiki.
The drive won't be an issue. I figured it would take an hour or so.
I appreciate the tips!

depends on handicap

Kapolei and hawaiian Prince are tourist courses and pretty easy compared toKo'oulau which is about 140 handicap. bring two dozen balls if your handicap is more than 10.
Turtle bay courses are both good but last time thwre the condition was not up to the usual standard IMHO.

Thank you!

At this point it looks like Ko' Olina or Turtle Bay. Now for the planning!!

Happy travels.

About 12 years ago I took my Mom to Waikiki for her birthday. She was a golfer then and always wanted to play in Hawaii. We went to Turtle Bay and we had the best time! Beautiful course with some ocean views. Would do it again in a heartbeat, but alas, neither of us can play anymore.

I've played Ko'olau, it was VERY difficult, but very fun too. Maybe that's bcause I got on for resident prices. lol

DH and I also played Luana Hills. Absoultey beautiful. It was a difficult course, but it was fun. We thought the course was a killer, but found out, the back nine (where we started) was a lot more difficult than the front. The front opened up and was a bit more gentle on us.

Definitely look into Luana Hills.

ETA: or you can just pick the course with the coolest logo. lol
