Best Grande Vista week to reserve to exchange

Been Grande Vista owners for about 10 years and have always reserved President's Day week, locked off our 3 BR and used for exchanges. We have never joined the Destination Club and of course have found our trade capabilities have diminished over the years, but it still works for us as we can travel shoulder seasons. What is your opinion of the best week to reserve for maximum trading power or does it even matter anymore?

I think with platinum it would be New Years (week 52) followed by Christmas (week 52). Then perhaps Spring Break/Easter would be third. Though that is always a moving target. Presidents Day week is a little early on the calendar to be a real peak week.

Though all that said, if you are traveling in shoulder season, any platinum week will get you to most any place you would want to go. I wouldn't stress too much about reserving the holiday weeks.

I generally book Christmas, New Years, spring break, or July 4th week. Follow the II demand chart to confirm highest each year to make sure you book the right week for exchange.

Agree the trading power seems to have gone down. I usually book Spring Break and was successfull renting them (but now I take DC points).

Frankly, I own platinum weeks and never worry about booking any particular week if I want to trade it. This would usually be a Grande Chateau week. I usually lock off and book weeks as far out as I can to give myself the most time to use it. This is often an early December week, certainly not the peak time, but it has gotten me great trades, including a 2BR February week at Westin Kaanapali Villas. I think too many people here stress out unnecessarily about the trade power of a particular week. My philosophy is that it doesn't make a lot of difference and I would rather have the top weeks go to an owner rather than an exchanger.

Saintsfanfl did a trade power compare a while back. Do a search - it has some good info although trade power is always being adjusted.

You can always count on the travel demand index in II being fairly accurate as well. Good enough for this purpose IMHO.

The week between Christmas and NYE and week prior to Easter are usually the most crowded weeks in Orlando. Thus, likely to be top traders.

President's week has a higher demand for South Florida but not the same in Orlando. Orlando is a global family destination. Not everyone is out of school President's week, but the entire world is off the last week in December.

My trading power analysis was done based on the cruise exchange cash value, which I personally believe is indicative of trading power but obviously not certain. At the time I did it II offered a larger discount for New Years and Christmas vs Presidents week or even Easter. If I was exchanging with an OGS I would choose Christmas/New Years week as my first option, especially with 2016 being a year where it is really one week instead of two. Spring break greatly varies by school so even though the Spring is really busy it's not quite as packed and congested on any of those weeks vs the end of the year.

I just noticed that the TDI chart now shows both current year and next year for weeks that vary. This is very helpful.
