Son flying from Houston to Venice Fl in a few weeks.
Venice being just about halfway between Ft Myers and the Clearwater area....does anyone have any opinion on which is easier to access or offers airlines with better deals?
Thanks,
Mike

I think it might depend on price. Tampa is the areas largest, so has more flights. It is a nice airport, currently undergoing renovation, but not really a problem.

Clearwater/St. Pete is a very small airport mostly served by Allegiant. Prices are usually pretty good, but airline only uses smaller airports. There have been some concerns about them lately.

Sarasota airport is also an option. I have not flown into Ft. Myers, but they have enlarged recently.

I would check which is easiest and cheapest.

The airport in Fort Myers is very nice, easy in and out, not too crowded. They just completed a ramp off I75 that whisks you right to the airport, so you never have to contend with surface roads. I have not used the other airports, but I would look at price

If rental cars are part of your travel equation, I'd look at that as a factor too.
I hear people grousing routinely that car rental prices at RSW (Fort Myers airport) are often just obscene. I dunno, personally.

We have recently checked out fares for Sarasota area to Houston. Best price was between Tampa and Houston direct flight on Spirit. We will fly Spirit with no luggage :) Car rental on Tampa is Ok especially if you use Costco.

Allegiant also uses the airport in Punta Gorda, but only 2 or 3 days a week. really cheap flights, if it works out.

Alleigant doesn't fly into Houston. We fly Fort Myers into Dallas on Spirit. However, consider that it isn't really that bad a drive from Orlando to Venice if the price break warrants it.

Allegiant is like Spirit. You pay for everything including carry on bags. Prices quickly become less than cheap.

My experience with car rentals at Fort Meyers shows that prices are the same or better than those on the east coast or in Orlando. I am signed up with all of the major rental companies and get their better pricing so that may make a difference.
