Regardless of which party is in control, the relationship between big business and the Federal Government is anything but easy to understand.
Just to cite a recent example, Apple has openly refused to comply with legal orders to unlock cell phones as part of legal investigations. How do you want the Federal Government to respond?

What should the US Federal government do? .... or any government

In cases where the government has made its case in court, and a order is given to Apple to open the contents of the phone for legal purposes, I would expect Apple to follow the law, not ignore it. Yet, that is exactly what Apple has done - on multiple occasions. The encryption was provided by Apple and could have been opened by Apple. They refused. The government should have pursued this matter further and sought fines against the company and jail time for those executives who made this decision.

Interestingly enough, Apple is now advertising its 'privacy'. Where does the concern for public safety enter into consideration?

That was not the encryption in the Apple cases - it was Apple provided encryption they could decrypt. And would not, despite court orders IIRC.

So you think there should be government regulations to force companies to have different "sides" like in the sports world.
Split the stock of a company into different sides so one could buy an iPhone from the "good" side.

yeah, that would work soooo great .... (not !)
