Bedbugs at WSJ?

This poster on another forum http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t33598 went to WSJ over Thanksgiving and believes unit 2511 has bedbugs. The response she got from Starwood was terrible. Anyone get those symptoms at WSJ?

Definitely not. Mosquitos yes, and I didn't self-diagnose them on the internet - I actually saw them.

I didn't hear of any problems like that when I went although this can happen anywhere.When I went for the tour of the new section the room I saw was between guests and housekeeping was tearing the beds and everything else apart pretty thorough.

That is one sorry thread - bad self-diagosis... I would post a response myself, but I will not register to do so. If you are registered - please inform them of the following...

I can diagnose what they had - and that was noseeum bites - these are nasty little gnats {not sandfleas as commonly known, and certainly not bedbugs) that have a very nasty bite. These gnats are around a dusk on the beaches - they are worse than mosquitoes because... you cannot see them - thus the name.

The same thing happened to me coming home from the BVI many years ago - I was sitting on the beach watching the sunset - and the next 2-3 days were hell - nasty and very itchy small bites all over my legs and arms.

These are commonly discussed on vacation boards (e.g. VINOW.com) - the best prevention is to make sure you protect yourself with DEET or Picaridin prior to being in a location where these little bastards and mosquitos will bite.

btw - I also think that the Westin's response was appropriate. I mean how are they suppose to respond to a non-registered guest?

These were noseeum bites. The first time I was at WSJ I had the same problem, but saw a doctor when I came home. NOT bedbugs which is what I was sure they were; but noseeum bites. They are awful. So, since then, when ever we are at WSJ, I say to hell with everything else, and use the highest concentration of DEET I can find on myself. My daughter and husband are rarely bothered, but I am miserable if I'm bitten. I tend to have some sort of allergic reaction.

In Canada we have had some excellent documentaries on BEDBUGS -- omg ...

With the banning of DDT - there is little defense. Hi end hotels are using sniffer dogs to detect problem area's. It sure makes you think about that 'cheaper hotel' when the best are having significant troubles.

Even a point that cloth seats on public transit ( bus - plane ) can help them spread from infected person to another home. It is not the poor that just suffer this problem.
