Hi all

I have a Jan 09 week at Sheraton Mountain Vista on hold. I thought I was really lucky to get the exchange. We have been skiing on the East coast for years. I am so looking forward to the trip.

Then when I start to add up the cost of lift tickets, rental and lesson, it seems like package deal ($2200 for 4 nights, 4 people) from the resort web site makes more sense.

Did I miss any discount I could get on lift tickets or rentals?

May thanks for your help,

Jane

If you aren't traveling with your own skis, I recommend renting your skis from the place that is 2 miles away from the closest lift. You know, the little individual ski shop just down the road? They might even be able to get you package deals at discounted rates and you don't have to wait in the crazy rental lines at the mountain. Don't wait too long though, as those packages are usually only good when booked at least one or two weeks out from arrival.

What about lessons?

John, Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I found a ski rental place online that are really reasonable.

The lift ticket discount are not available anywhere based on my research. I can manage the 3-4 day pass.

Now I really need some help deciding what to do with lessons. They are so expansive:eek: . It would cost more than $200 a day for a kid to take lesson. I always signed up my kids and myself for at least one lesson per season. But we have 2 hour lessons here. Is there any options I missed?

Thanks,

Jane

Jane,

I would encourage you to call Avon Sports, or if I have that wrong, whoever the link you posted was and ask them directly to help you lower the prices for lessons and lift tickets. Mind your P's and Q's, be oh so polite, and mention that you have used their services for the past three or four years and were always SO happy with them. (Sometimes it's okay to fib a little) They will likely help you out with reducing your costs for the week with your family at the mountain. I wish you the best!

And for those of you who want to bash me for a little white lie, go for it. Times are hard, and everyone needs an edge. I bought a $79 sweater at Aeropostal today as a gift for $14.99. And three great DVDs for $10.00 total at FYI Music. The times are tough, and I am happy to take advantage of deals because, I too, cannot afford my normal Christmas spending this year.

Not as long as I plan to SCUBA dive in the Caymans next month.

Oddly enough, I have stretched to pay my minimum bills this months, as well as spending a few hundred dollars on Christmas gifts, when I usually spend well over $1500. But it's all about our SCUBA vacation in January with my partner and my mom this year. YAY!

Is that a total of $2200 for 4 people? $550 per person for 4 nights lodging and 4 days skiing with lessons seems like a great deal if that is what it includes.
Here is what the package includes
Comfort Inn-Avon - Hotel Room 4 nights,
# Includes: 3 days of kids' ski school with lunch, lift tickets and ski rentals
# 3 days of Adult lift tickets and ski rentals
# A voucher for $40 per adult and $20 per child toward a world-class dinner at Beano cabin.

total 2,144.24 including tax and insurance

Here are the cost of the kids package
$175 (ski school with lunch, lift) + $26 rental = $201 per day, $1206 for 2 kids, 3 days
3 day adult lift $252 x2 = $504, not sure about rental cost

So the hotel cost is close to nothing. But my kids do not want to be in ski school for all three days. It is a very good deal if I end up paying for lift, rental and lesson any way.
