Stumbled upon an article regarding cheapest coastal towns to retire. MS was at top of list.

Anyone know anything?
(Apart from horrible humidity in summer.)

Hubby's cousin and wife retired to Biloxi a year or so ago. Ages 57 and 62, city pensions from a town of 20k in Illinois so they are used to humidity. Purchased a few years before retiring and rented the place out until moving, a house a few blocks up from the beach which kept it affordable-basic 1000sf rambler. They love it, the affordability and simplicity. He is now off all his blood pressure meds. I believe tax advantages are very good in MS. Have made good friends thru community involvement, a group of them just went on a cruise out of Mobile which also looked affordable!

Thanks for your reply. I was surprised that no one had answered.

The gulf beaches east of the Mississippi river are usually beautiful. For retirement, I would factor in the quality of medical care in the area.

My college roommate moved to Jackson MS 25+ years ago to be a medical examiner there. She bought a beach house in Bay St Louis. It’s a small coastal community. She’s going to retire in 2022 and loves her slice of paradise

Two other cousins (one from each side of family) are planning on Tx, one full time to Brownsville and the other seasonally to South Padre.
It is interesting to hear ppl plans, everyone has their own criteria. Ourselves, we purchased in AZ when the market was low and plan to be full-timers relocating from MN, how is that for total opposite climate!

My biggest worry would be the quality of construction (with the ability to withstand a hurricane). Wood frame construction just may not cut it anymore for a coastal community.....

I don't think the beaches are great but still second both Bay St Louis and Biloxi as great places to retire.

We lived in Biloxi many, many years ago and while attractive, the beach there wasn't used because the water wasn't clean. I think the issue was the presence of some islands off shore which kept the water from circulating. Don't know if that's still the situation, but it took away the appeal of being on the beach. We did sometimes drive over to the Florida panhandle to use the beaches.

As long as the roof is attached with hurricane clips it should be fine, I would be more concerned with flooding.
