The Beach Boys will be touring together. They were on the Grammys-so I was told. Did anyone hear them? How were they? Bought tickets to see them when they come to CT. I saw them years ago, they were wonderful-John Stamos even came out to play the drums during one of the concerts. But, once they split up I did not enjoy the concerts anymore. This new concert with Brian and the guys back together will be something to see.

Brian and Mike Love are going to be back together? That would be a fabulous thing to see. We saw Mike Love and the Beach Boys at Epcot a few years ago during Food and Wine, or maybe it was the spring Flower Power music series. He was very good.

I saw them perform last night. I am a big Beach Boys fan and was very interested in seeing them. That being said, I would have to say that their performance was not very good. There was no power in there voices and the songs sounded very week. Most in my family had a hard time keeping a straight face. I actually had to find a YouTube video to show my DD that they "used to be" good.

Brian will be 70 in June. :(

Exactly what I thought. I thought they sounded much better when Foster and Levine joined back in. Maybe not the "classic" Beach Boys sound, but at least you could hear them and the energy level went up dramatically.

My brother-in-law said it was the biggest thrill of his life to meet Brian.

I saw their performance during the Daytona 500 a few years back (on TV). It wasn't good.

Me three. I loved seeing them one time for a reunion and thought the Grammy Awards was a nice place for it because it gave the current artists a chance to show their respect and gratitude to the guys who helped pave their way. But if their performance last night is any indication of what we'd see at local venues during a tour, I wouldn't buy a ticket. It'd be like watching the ballplayers who don't retire from the game until it's too late, and their careers are diminished somewhat by a poor showing throughout a last season. I hate to see that - "go out on top" works for music stars and baseball players, IMO.

I got to see them a couple of years ago in Branson. They had to give away tickets to fill the place, and I got in free. It was nice to hear the old songs, but the quality was definitely a downgrade. I would have been majorly disappointed if I would have paid full freight.

My first concert ever in the sixties was the Beach Boys. I wa thrilled to see them & to get to touch Dennis' drum cases when we went behind te building to the loading dock long after the show.

My wife loves them & we have attended maybe 6-10 concerts since. The last 4 (in the 90's) were big disappointments and we haven't tried to attend one since. Last night was actually better than I've heard in a long time but still nothing like the glory days. Hey, we're all getting older I guess. And death of the many founding members certainly hasn't helped.

I saw them perform last night, and it wasn't very satisfying. The Beach Boys I remember were not the guys on stage last night. The names were the same, and the faces were familiar, but that was about all. I don't think I'd pay to see them in concert.

Ricky Nelson's song "Garden Party" comes to mind. It's about people's reaction to seeing him perform later on, when he didn't look like the teenage idol they remembered. In this case it was like the Beach Boys members were totally overwhelmed by all the hype and crowded stage. They even had to get Adam Levine from Maroon 5 to help them sing, because he has the voice, and they don't. Kind of sad, actually.

(On an unrelated side note, seeing Jennifer Hudson's tribute song to Whitney Houston was incredible.)

I became engaged to my first wife at a Beach Boys concert in '82.

I've also been into Geezer-Rock concerts recently -- Cher, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Moody Blues, Paul Simon. However, based on what I saw last night, I'd sooner go to see Glen Campbell (alzheimers notwithstanding).

I remember reading about this. He went to Madison Square Garden to perform his country/ western music, which was his favorite genre, and no one wanted to listen to his music, and he was even booed (imagine that), because it wasn't his Ozzie and Harriet persona singing soft love songs. The genres are very different, so his fanbase missed Ricky Nelson of the television show, sadly.

That's why he called that song "Garden Party." It was about that particular event in his life.

I began following the Beach Boys in the '60s. Loved the music then and still do. I bought tickets to a concert in the '60s and they were a no-show but we did get to see them later in life. We watched them the other night at the Grammy's. Just not the same. My thoughts were to turn down the volume, put a CD in the player and crank it up!!!!!

Was it just me, or did anyone else find it interesting that one of them had a hat on saying "The Beach Boys," as if he needed it spelled out for others who might otherwise not know/recognise him??? I just found it odd/sad...

I do like the guys, and love that they are still around and mostly able to hit the notes, but wouldn't pay to see them. I asked my DH at the end if they'd even be able to sing two songs in a row - they sounded weak, as others have said. However, I loved the respect they were given by the younger artists.

Beach Boys? Its time to stay retired

Which BB played/sang at the piano? Thought he looked very shaky.
The one who got everyone going wearing the baseball hat was more agile but I agree. A very expensive senior citizens reunion band is what the BB concert will be. Then again, Glen Campbell is what, 75, and could still carry a tune. But again, could barely dance a step. So sad.

That was Brian Wilson.
