A contract for 1,154,000 Bali Hai points just sold on eBay for $10,000. That means at least 4-5 years to break even on MF compared to picking up CWA points for free. I'm interested in your thoughts.
This has been my rule of thumb more or less forever...not just due to age, but because looking back over my past, life has proven to be not very predictable on the scale of 7-10 years. My personal rule of thumb, given our ages, 69 and 71 for a few more months, is five years or less is a no brainer. 6-8 I have to really think about it. Beyond that I'm out but that's solely because of our age.
No one is giving away PR. Which from the maintenance fees the bidders figured it it was.
Even if it wasn't PR at five years or less to recover the cost via the lower maintenance fees this is well worth $10k. In 4-5 years when this person will be paying hundreds of dollars less for the same vacations the CWA owner who got their points for free is paying. Guess who'll be thinking to themselves who's the smart one now?
Would the PR be listed in the estoppel? The ownership detail I received from the seller didn't show it.
Bali Hai MFs on a PR contract are $4.48 per thousand points, so this is how I figured it was a PR contract:I was watching this contract too....the total monthly assessment seemed a bit high at $5.19....my BH is $4.79. I didn't try to reverse engineer the program fee for the ebay one to see how that factored in. I personally also consider the resale-ability when looking at these.
Will the VIP discounts apply if you are a non VIP buyer? Forget about the 5 year pay back on the 10k. Why spend the 10k along with 6k in maintenance fees when you can rent vacations without purchasing or being burdened with maintenance fees. Keep in mind renting from a VIP in the 60 day window while receiving the 50% discounts and upgrades is at least 1/2 the cost of paying maintenance fees on a non VIP ownership.A contract for 1,154,000 Bali Hai points just sold on eBay for $10,000. Private identity auction with 8 bidders and 63 bids. I like to see the identity and feedback on all bidders. I wonder what the feedback score was on the bidders running up the price and the winning bidders feedback?A contract for 1,154,000 Bali Hai points just sold on eBay for $10,000. No it wouldn't be listed. The only clue on this one was doing the math on the maintenance fees. Which wouldn't have been easy to figure out if you didn't know that in addition to paying higher maintenance fees than select points pay, PR owners pay a higher program fee on the first million points too.
Even if it turns out not to be PR, which I doubt will be the case, this wasn't a bad deal. Based on what people have been paying for much smaller amounts of points at Bali Hai.
Holding out of me, eh?

I sure wasn't bidding on it! I'm good but even I can't come up with plausible reasons to explain to Jim why we would need another 1,154,000 points. I settle for living vicariously and leave the crazy to you and Stan. Lol
I agree not every room is available at the 60 day or 13 month mark. Even if I book at 13 month mark I can rent for less most of the time then paying Grand Desert maintenance fees. Renting comes without a sunk cost or the burden of paying maintenance fees. I am not against owning and I do own a non VIP ownership with Wyndham but if it is cheaper to rent I will rent instead of using my points. I also can add renting eliminates the need to pay the housekeeping fees on short stays.Because not every room is available at the 60 day mark and not everyone needs anything bigger than a studio/1 bedroom. Why pay the rental price year over year when it's cheaper to own?

Who are you renting from at 13 months that is cheaper than owning at Grand desert? I like to know as I can’t find anyone willing to rent cheaper than $8-10/1000 if over the 60 day mark. Asking for myself as I find myself renting quite often as well.I agree not every room is available at the 60 day or 13 month mark. I totally disagree. It’s more cost effective using CWA points on a 2 or 3bd condo instead of 2 or 3 hotel rooms of equal quality. We all know CWA maintenance fees are not a cost effective.way to travel.
Just throwing out other alternatives to buying more points the one can possibly use. This leads to the glut of points available to rent cheap. IMHO I just don't see the $15/1000 rental rates advertised on tug market place and I would never pay it knowing its cheaper to pay CWA maintenance fees. I never paid more then $6/1000 max and recieved the 50% disconts along with a few free upgrades. This is within 60 day discount window on points used after 50% discount and does not include free upgrade. I also never book more then a one bedroom. Key is to be flexible with travel plans. If someone wants a 3 beroom presidential roomWhen the VIPs post their rentals it usually is at the $15/1k mark with 50% discounts and free upgrade.
I would never believe that 2-3 hotel rooms could be of equal value to a 3 bedroom Wyndham resort? Especially without a VIP discount or free room upgrade.I totally disagree. It’s more cost effective using CWA points on a 2 or 3bd condo instead of 2 or 3 hotel rooms of equal quality.
Thats‘s without any VIP discounts or upgrades thrown in, if you can add those in at times CWA points are better yet.
I don’t own any CWA points
Use Bonnet Creek as an example. What cost less per night?I would never believe that 2-3 hotel rooms could be of equal value to a 3 bedroom Wyndham resort? Especially without a VIP discount or free room upgrade.
