The article contradicts itself. First it says no passports will be issued, then it says routine applications or renewal requests for passports that come after March 20 will not receive expedited service, and the State Department has said regular service may be delayed. So, which is it? No passports, except life or death situations, or just that there will be a delay? Also the article didn't talk about renewals.

I found this on the government website which clarifies it a little:

If you apply or renew now, you will experience significant delays of several months to receive your U.S. passport and the return of your citizenship evidence documents (such as birth certificates or naturalization certificates). Unless you have a life-or-death emergency, please wait until we resume normal operations to apply for or renew your passport.

Hi all... I'm a citizen liaison volunteer here with the US Embassy and I'm receiving information that if you need a new passport issued it will require an appointment at your closest Embassy . It can be arranged online if you decide not to mail.

We got our sons passports for their birth/country of resident In January so we could enter the country the end February as their Canadian passports were set to expire inside 3 months. In the end the airline and immigration did not check the expiration date. Thought the computer would notify them automatically. A waste of $200 and at some point need to get new Canadian passports. Hopefully for our trip to Hawaii in September.

For sure. Could have went right for renewing Canadians passports but more work and time. In January we went to fly to the Bahamas. And were asked for our yellow fever cards at the departure check in. I got mine 8 years ago and kept it survived a few moves but never kept an eye on it. My wife got the shot in October but never needed it or brought the card. My two sons have never had it. No idea it was a requirement. At the time pretty upset/mad etc. 3.5 hours home and our sons got their shots and never asked for it at the check in airport. Now cannot even fly anywhere. A week tomorrow we would be 2 nights in Cancun and a week traveling around Calgary, Banff and Jasper.
