January and February are busier because of whale season. Whales start arriving in December, but December is right before Christmas break with schools, and that holiday time is very busy for most people, so going to Maui before Christmas is very difficult for most. That would keep me from going before the holidays. I am just a grandma, not a parent, but it's just a busy time around here.

January and February is the dead of winter. After the holidays people who are retired and don't have to go to work flock to nice warm locations. Hawaii is very nice and warm. We have been going from January thru at least March or April since we retired in 2009.

We've been doing the same since I retired in 2008. Retirees also stay there longer.

Thanks, everyone. I thought it was probably the holidays keeping people away in Nov and Dec and then the weather and whales drawing people for Jan & Feb. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something else. I'm not particularly busy around the holidays so it might be a good time for me.

Early December is a great time to visit Hawaii -- fewer people, whales usually, and good enough weather (except the north sides of Kauai and Maui). We have visited during November or December six times in the past eight years and hope to repeat again this year.

The holiday weeks of Christmas and New Years are event weeks in HGVC resorts in Hawaii and are probably booked up by the owners of the resorts in all systems. Novermber and early December would have good availability if you stay away from Thankgi

Here is the demand chart for the Hawaiian Islands. Weeks 43-47, which are appx October 23-November 21 are low demand. But the lowest demand weeks are weeks 48 and 49, about the two weeks following Thanksgiving. People are done traveling for Thanksgiving holiday but not yet traveling for Christmas vacation. My son in law's birthday falls in that time period and I have been able to get my kids very nice units twice during those two weeks with pretty mediocre traders. Airfare was reasonable at that time too. I think your very best chances of staying at superior resorts would fall during weeks 48 and 49. I would buy EPlus too, if trading with II so you could upgrade even further with last minute trades. You can also see that the holiday weeks of 51 and 52 are among the highest demand.
