We are going to Australia to the Kyneton Bushland Resort #0830 next month and got to wondering if we need anything other than our passports. If anyone has been there recently, what is there to see and do in the area? We will have a rental car but wondered if a tour to watch the "Penguin Parade" would be preferable over driving ourselves at night. Any information and/or suggestions greatly appreciated.

You do need a visa but can do it online...we used this company
http://us.cibt.com/

It is instant and is electronic. It is good for the length of the passport

Hi
The Kyneton Bush Resort is a resort set in Australian bush lands the villas are all away from each other they are all kept well the last time we was there 18 months ago
The Penguin Parade on Phillip Island would be a long drive to get there and back in the night would suggest staying the night on Phillip Island and a another thing take a warm jacket or something if a south wind is blowing it is cold.
It would be about 250 KLS drive there and back at least 3 to 4 hours drive ther and back
Sovereign hill gold mineing in the day time is good and they put on a show at night about the miners up riseing about fees it is very good to see
An other long drive would be the Ocean Road it is a must see starts just past Geelong And finishs near Warrnambool would be a very early start and late finish day
The resort has a site of its own if you look it up has a lot of info on it

http://www.kynetonbushlandresort.com.au

If you want any more info just ask

Thanks for the info! I didn't know we needed a visa but thanks to you, we now have one. Checked out the resorts website which had great info also. How is shopping for groceries? We like to prepare our own meals and find that we can save alot of money that way. Is there an oven other than a microwave in the 2 bedroom units? Are there any "must" things to see and do in the area since we probably won't ever return? Getting pretty anxious!

Hi again

There is a super market in Kyneton for grocerys From what I can remember it was a microwave oven type we cooked all our meals in the unit
Places to must see if you can find time to go and see the Ocean Road drive it is a long day but one of Australia must see things to see
Close by Ballarat and Bendigo citys are worth a visit there are drives around Daylesford Creswick these are gold mineing towns of years past
Sovereign Hill is in Ballarat it is very good to see and the sound and light show at night
The resort is out of the town of Kyneton about 5 KLS so you will have peace and Quiet time you will most likely have have a possums running around at night they have recharge torch in the unit on the wall for you to go out and see them you most likely see some kangaroos there also and the kookabra bird will most likely laugh in the morning to wake you
You could take the train to Melbourne for the day save driving the train takes you to Southern Cross Station in Spencer st there is a brown tram that goes around the city it is free you hope on and of at the places of interest also your country train ticket gives you free tram rides for the day
At the front desk of the resort they will give you idears on places to go also they are very help full do hope you enjoy Australia

Would like to go to Phillip Island for the day and see the Penguin Parade. Is there a tour offered by the resort we could take so we wouldn't have the long drive at night? Any tours or activities offered at the resort? Thanks again.

The resort would not have a tour to Phillip Island it would be to far away
The only way would be to drive your self I would stay the night on the island and drive back the next day be aware there is toll roads though the city on free ways you can pay them the next day at any Australian post office with in 3 days of useing them
Any tours leave Melbourne city and get back to the city about midnight so would be to late to catch a train back to Kyneton if you drive to the city to catch a tour it will cost you about 35 dollars to park your car for the day make shough the park does not close before at least midnight the cost of a motel on the island for a night most likly would be $ 80-00 to 120-oo a night.
Do get a gps in your hire car it make driving in strange citys easy
Can look up and give you a site we use for booking accommodation if you want

Melbourne has hook turns where you make a right turn from the far left lane, rather disconcerting if you aren't used to them.

Yes Melbourne does have hook right hand turns in most of the city center intersetions it is to give trams the right of way it is the only city I know of that has them there is sighs up to show you which intersection that has them. Melbourne is not the ezyest city to drive in the world for having this.
