After 40+ years of T/S ownership, I am no longer "an owner"
Just received it via e-mail and saw this short article:

What is a Timeshare User Group?
A Timeshare User Group is a group of timeshare owners just like yourself. Usually it is a group that meets to discuss their timeshare experiences, give tips, socialize and stay informed on what is happening in the timeshare industry. Some groups hold annual meetings, produce and distribute newsletters and exchange and rent among the group. Currently, there is a National Timeshare Owners Group that is being formed. For more information or to start a group in your area, contact: hastry@aol.com

I guess I'm curious why DAE feels yet another timeshare users group is necessary given all of the options available already.

Also it mentions organizing of a "national" group . . . national for where? USA . . . UK . . . Australia?

I guess the internet is an open market; I'm just curious why the need.

Just checked my August newsletter and can't see any mention of it in mine.

Hello,

Thanks as always for all the feedback. We just met this particular timeshare user group and thought we would spread the word. We want to distribute these little tidbits as we learn about them.

In response to Timeshare Von's "I guess I'm curious why DAE feels yet another timeshare users group is necessary given all of the options available already. Also it mentions organizing of a "national" group . . . national for where? USA . . . UK . . . Australia?":

We don't really feel another timeshare user group is necessary or not persay, we just spread the word about new things we learn that we think might be of interest or value to any timeshare owner.

Also, we may simply not know about all of the options! Maybe we could use some help in learning more about all the options for owners looking for forums, group get togethers, etc. So that we can better inform our members.

We mention TUG to members all the time as we get members looking for an online forum (outside of their own resort owner base). We would love to do a follow up of this mention with one on Tug as well.

Our North American newlsetter is only distributed to our North American Members. So when we refer to "National" we mean US. Thanks again for the feedback. Hope to hear more. We'd love to spread the word.

Re-renting

Hello anteween,

Our most recent newsletter included a section about renting exchanged weeks. By way of our terms and conditions, we don't allow the "re-rental" of an exchange week. This has caused several problems for us and members in the past.

Because we hold the DAE member responsible for the unit they exchge into, we cannot effectively extend that liability to a third party if rented out again.

This is not a new rule. It has been in our terms and conditions for years.

We do allow guest certificates to be issued at no cost.

Thanks for your posting

Any plans for an Australian forum?

I have timeshare in NZ and Australia and I get both an Aussie and Kiwi newsletter. Generally they are both the same but with local contact details on each.

This is for US, Ed Hastry has 'organized' a Maryland Timeshare Owners Group that does little but meet once a year where the bill to be a member includes dinner for $80 or something like that. He has almost never replied to any of my emails. They usually are able to get great speakers like Miss Timeshare for Dummies and reps from RCI and II. When you ask pointed hard questions in an open forum the old codgers in the back complain that their time is being wasted by the young whippersnapper up front. I don't think this is a labor of love for Ed Hastry and his wife, they are trying to make money, but that's just my opinion.

I called this National Timeshare Owners Group AND....

They want $75 to join. They send you an every two months magazine for that but they refused to send me a free trial issue. They are mailing me information. I suggested that if they have something good they buy an add on TUG. Whats his name wasn't interested.

Anyone ever see this magazine? Apparently this guy goes around speaking at retirement communities on how to get rid of your timeshare.Or that is what Ed Hastry says he does. It does not sound good to me and if it is they would advertise it on TUG.Everyone else with a good timeshare related publication does.

Why is DAE giving this group free publicity? If this group is a waste of time and money it reflects badly on DAE.

DAE has a reputation for considerable integrity at present. If This Group I never heard of before is yet another scheme to make money off senior citizens who do not know what to do with there timeshares, even if its just a $75 membership fee, TUG and DAE both need to do an investigation. If it is a good deal I would like to hear more.
